Fake iPhone 16 Launch Poster Was a Prank

On August 20, a tipster known as Majin Buu shared a seemingly official iPhone 16 launch poster on X, boasting the tagline ‘Ready. Set. Capture.’ Despite its professional appearance, the poster was not an official release by Apple and did not verify a September 10 launch for the new series.

The Making of a Convincing Poster

The poster, which featured an Apple logo and highlighted the concept of ‘capture’ (suggesting a focus on the capture button), was actually a creative endeavor by another user on the platform, serving merely as a distraction from boredom. X user @lorevfx admitted to creating the poster, even posting a video demonstrating how he crafted the image using Figma and an AI-generated texture in under ten minutes. He also revealed the full conversation that led tipster Majin Buu to believe the poster was genuine.

Uncertainty Surrounding the Launch Date

As of now, it remains uncertain whether Apple will hold a launch event on September 10 or if the capture button will be featured across all iPhone 16 models. According to earlier speculation, the capture button is anticipated to support various gestures. Users might be able to zoom by swiping left and right on the button’s surface. Additionally, it is expected to function as a two-stage shutter button: a light press to set the focus and a harder press to take the photo. This mechanical control, akin to those on dedicated cameras, could enhance the photo-taking experience.

Upcoming AI Features

Apple is also developing new AI features for iOS 18. However, it is reported that some of the significant AI enhancements may require several months before they are refined and introduced to the new devices.
