Key Takeaways
1. The Antigravity A1 is currently the only available 360° consumer drone, but DJI is rumored to be developing its own model, the Avata 360.
2. The Avata 360 is expected to have a rotating camera housing, a feature the Antigravity A1 lacks.
3. Unlike the Antigravity A1, the Avata 360 will not have built-in landing gear, which protects the camera lens.
4. Recent images show the Avata 360 can operate as a first-person view (FPV) drone, unlike the Antigravity A1.
5. The Avata 360 is anticipated to record in up to 8K resolution and is expected to be priced around $425 at launch.
The Antigravity A1 is still the only 360° consumer drone that is available for purchase. Yet, there have been ongoing rumors about DJI working on its own version, which will fall under the Avata series. Although there is no confirmed release date right now, the Avata 360 has been spotted on multiple occasions in recent months.
Recent Confirmations
A new leak seems to validate previous claims about a feature that the Antigravity A1 does not have. To summarize, Hakasushi mentioned back in November that the Avata 360 would be able to rotate its camera housing, which is likely inspired by the Osmo 360 (currently priced at $384.99 on Amazon). Consequently, the Avata 360 is expected to function without built-in landing gear, which the Antigravity A1 needs to protect its lower camera lens from scratches.
Visual Evidence
Recent images have confirmed the earlier assumptions were correct. Although the top photo does not clearly show everything, the one shared above features the Avata 360 with one camera lens directed inward and the other facing outward. Additionally, the remote control displayed alongside it shows a live feed with a standard image rather than a 360° view.
Thus, the Avata 360 can also operate as a first-person view (FPV) drone, distinguishing it from just being a 360° drone like the Antigravity A1. At present, it is anticipated that the Avata 360 will record videos in resolutions up to 8K using dual 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensors. It is reported that the Avata 360 will be priced starting at approximately CNY 2,988 (roughly $425) when it launches later this quarter.
