  • Garmin Fenix 8 and Smartwatches Get Snap Update to Fix Crashes

Garmin Fenix 8 and Smartwatches Get Snap Update to Fix Crashes

In the past few weeks, keeping track of the numerous bug fixes, new features, and enhancements from Garmin for the Enduro 3, Fenix E, and Fenix 8 (currently priced at $1,099.99 on Amazon) has been quite a challenge. To give some perspective, the company released System Software 12.22 at the end of last month, which included around 130 changes.

    Beta Testing Insights

On the other hand, Garmin has been testing even more updates in its Beta Program, which haven’t made it to the main software releases. This month, however, the updates that have come out include significantly less improvements compared to before.

    Recent Updates

For instance, Beta Version 12.32 was released nearly a week ago and had just a three-line changelog. Now, we have Beta Version 12.34, which features even fewer updates. Still, this version is meant to fix a problem with Garmin’s Connect IQ service that might lead it to crash unexpectedly.

    Future Updates

At this point, Garmin has not yet announced when this bug fix will be available for the Enduro 3, Fenix E, and Fenix 8 smartwatches that are on stable software. All indications suggest that there will be at least one more beta version before a new stable update is rolled out. Notably, Beta Version 12.34 comes with ECG and Dive features turned off. For further details, you can check out Garmin’s forum post.

  • Hyundai and Kia Launch X-ble Shoulder Wearable Robot

Hyundai and Kia Launch X-ble Shoulder Wearable Robot

Hyundai Motor and Kia Robotics LAB have introduced the X-ble Shoulder, a wearable robot designed specifically for industrial workers aiming to lessen shoulder strain.

    Specifications and Weight

This passive device has a weight of 4.2 lbs. (1.9 kg) and offers assistance ranging from 28.4 N (2.9 kgf) to 36.3 N (3.7 kgf) for the arms. It can decrease shoulder strain by as much as 60 percent when handling objects overhead, while still allowing users full range of motion in their arms. Passive wearables redistribute the weight that causes strain to other body parts like the hips. The innovative multi-link structure of the X-ble can be adjusted based on different work conditions, making load distribution more efficient. It takes users just 20 seconds to put on the device, and it can be worn comfortably, even during breaks.

    Future Concepts in Development

The companies are looking to expand into other markets with two new concepts currently in the design phase. The X-ble Waist will assist workers in lifting heavy items like crates filled with farm produce, sharing a similar goal with the Innophys Muscle Suit. On the other hand, the X-ble MEX is intended to support walking rehabilitation, but its effectiveness compared to the powered Human in Motion XoMotion or Exso Indiego is yet uncertain.

    Alternatives for Casual Movers

For those who just need to transport a few heavy items while moving to a new apartment, a set of forearm moving straps can provide a simple yet effective way to utilize leverage.

Hyundai Motor Group has made announcements on YouTube, and further information can be found in Hyundai’s news release dated November 28, 2024.

Hyundai Motor and Kia’s Robotics LAB are excited to reveal the upcoming launch of the ‘X-ble Shoulder’ at the Wearable Robot Tech Day.
