  • New Gold and Silver Casio G-Shock Watches in Fine Metallic Series

New Gold and Silver Casio G-Shock Watches in Fine Metallic Series

Last month, in January 2024, we talked about the launch of Casio’s latest Fine Metallic series watches. These timepieces come with stainless-steel bezels available in both silver and gold shades. According to new updates from G-Central, G-Shock Singapore has introduced two new models to this series, which are likely to be available in other regions soon.

    New Model Details

The first watch, the GM-2100YMG-9A9, showcases a striking gold finish. It features an octagonal bezel, which is a key characteristic of the 2100 series, and boasts a sleek gold color scheme that envelops both the bezel and the robust silicone strap. The bezel is made from stainless steel with a gold ion-plated surface, while the silicone band includes a urethane coating with gold vapor deposition underneath. This model runs on a battery that is expected to last approximately three years and provides impressive water resistance of up to 200 meters, along with useful features like double LED lights, world time for 31 time zones, and five daily alarms.

    Another Classic Choice

The second model, GM-5600YM-8A8, presents a different design with a silver-centric theme, rooted in the iconic square 5600 case. It showcases a uniform silver finish across the stainless-steel bezel and silicone band, also using a urethane sheet with vapor-deposited silver for that shiny metallic look. This watch sticks to the fundamental features that made the 5600 series a favorite: a 1/100-second stopwatch, countdown timer, multi-function alarm, and water resistance up to 200 meters. The battery life for this model is rated at up to five years.

    Pricing and Availability

The GM-2100YMG-9A9 retails for S$449 or US$332, while the GM-5600YM-8A8 is priced at S$349 or US$258. Both models are currently available as online exclusives on Casio’s Singapore website. As previously noted, it’s uncertain when or if these watches will reach other markets, but we anticipate more information will be released shortly.

The watches utilize a quartz movement, which offers an estimated battery life of around three years. There are none of the solar charging, Bluetooth, or smart features typically found in more modern timepieces—just a reliable, classic watch. • Sibel Health and Maruho Launch AI Wearable for Eczema Relief

Sibel Health and Maruho Launch AI Wearable for Eczema Relief

Sibel Health has teamed up with Maruho to jointly develop and bring to market the ADAM AI wearable, which aims to help lessen the scratching for individuals suffering from itchy skin.

    Understanding Itchy Skin

Itchy skin, medically known as atopic dermatitis or eczema, triggers a strong desire to scratch, known as pruritus, and can stem from various factors like genetics, bacteria, and allergies. Many people struggle with uncontrollable scratching, even during their sleep. While topical creams and medications can help manage eczema, they may also carry harmful side effects.

    The ADAM Sensor

Sibel has produced the single-use ADAM sensor to track different health metrics for research purposes. These metrics include body position, cough frequency, heart rate, respiratory rate, sleep quality, skin temperature, and instances of scratching.

    Enhancements to the Device

Recently, the company incorporated a rotating mass motor that generates 1.4 G of vibratory force at 10,000 RPM into the ADAM sensor, enabling the wearable to give haptic feedback. To perfect the vibration settings, 20 participants were surveyed to choose their preferred option from 19 different profiles, ultimately favoring a strong, 1-second alert. The ADAM wearable was then updated to gather data at 1,666 Hz using the internal accelerometer, allowing for real-time data analysis to train a convolutional recurrent neural network (CRNN). The AI underwent training and validation for precision. Additional signal processing and clustering methods were applied to minimize false positives in scratch detection.

    Study Results

In a preliminary study published in JAMA Dermatology, researchers monitored 10 patients who wore the haptic ADAM device on the back of their dominant hand for 104 nights. With the haptic feedback feature activated, the ADAM wearable led to a 28% decrease in total scratch events and a 50% reduction in scratching duration per hour during sleep when scratching occurred.

    Future Directions

The precise mechanism by which the vibrations help curb scratching remains uncertain, but the partnership with Maruho aims to explore this while also commercializing the ADAM. For those who find themselves scratching at night, they might consider using a balm like one available on Amazon as they await the wearable’s arrival.

  • Ugreen Finder: Affordable Apple AirTag Alternative with Discount

Ugreen Finder: Affordable Apple AirTag Alternative with Discount

Just a few days ago, Ugreen introduced the Finder Slim, an ultra-thin alternative to the AirTag that resembles a credit card. With the launch of the Ugreen Finder, the Chinese brand has presented a new Bluetooth tracker in a classic style, which is already available at a notable discount.

    Pricing and Availability

Although the Ugreen Finder is not yet on Amazon, it is expected to have a retail price of about $20. Thanks to a promotional offer on Aliexpress, which ships to the U.S. and several other countries, the Ugreen tracker can currently be purchased for only $11 for a single unit. If customers want to buy two, three, or even four, they can save even more. In comparison, Amazon is selling a single Apple AirTag for $23, making the Ugreen Finder half the price.

    Features

Clearly, the Ugreen Finder serves as an alternative to the AirTag, being officially certified and compatible with Apple’s Find My App for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices. This Bluetooth tracker can be attached to keys, but it is also useful for tracking luggage during trips, among other uses.

Alongside global tracking through “Find My” and Siri, there’s a loud alarm feature that aids in finding misplaced items. The Ugreen device can alert users if it is left behind, sending a push notification when a smartphone moves too far from the tracker. Additionally, the Ugreen Finder notifies users about low battery levels for its CR 2032 battery, which is easy to replace. The company claims the tracker can last up to two years on a single battery.
