  • Insta360 GO 3S: 4K Thumb-Sized Camera with Apple Find My Support

Insta360 GO 3S: 4K Thumb-Sized Camera with Apple Find My Support

Insta360 has launched the GO 3S, an enhanced version of its acclaimed, compact GO 3 (review) action camera. The latest model offers upgraded video recording capabilities and includes a feature that many users will appreciate – Apple Find My support.

Previously limited to 2.7K resolution, the GO 3S now supports 4K recording at 30fps. It also offers a 2.7K mode at 50fps for smoother slow-motion footage. While current displays might not fully utilize 4K playback, this upgrade provides futureproofing and greater versatility for recorded videos.

    Apple Find My Compatibility

One significant enhancement is the Apple Find My compatibility. By pairing the GO 3S with an iPhone, users can locate the small camera via the Find My app, as long as it has some battery life, whether it’s switched on or off.

However, Insta360 notes that the Find My functionality is “significantly limited” underwater due to Bluetooth signal interference. Additionally, the included Action Pod does not feature Find My support, requiring users to keep track of it manually.

    Additional Features and Improvements

Apart from 4K recording and Find My, the GO 3S offers several other advancements. The water resistance has doubled from 16ft (5m) to 33ft (10m), but this applies only to the camera itself. The Action Pod needs a separate Dive Case for underwater use.

A new MegaView FOV setting provides an ultra-wide mode with reduced distortion, while the Interval Video function allows the camera to turn on and off at set intervals for extended activities.

Slow motion capabilities have been improved to a maximum of 200fps at 1080p and 100fps at 2.7K. Timelapse videos now include a Dynamic Timelapse effect that crops the footage to simulate panning shots, making it ideal for capturing cityscapes or sunsets.

The GO 3S can also automatically detect and adjust settings for horizontal or vertical shooting, which is particularly beneficial for creating social media content.

    Design and Pricing

Visually, the GO 3S is nearly identical to its predecessor and is available in the same color options — black and white.

The pricing remains consistent with the GO 3. The 64GB model starts at $399.99, and the 128GB version is available for $429.99. While the GO 3 has a more affordable 32GB option for $379.99, spending just an additional $20 provides double the storage capacity.

  • Getty and Picsart Partner for Safe AI Image Generation

Getty and Picsart Partner for Safe AI Image Generation

Getty Images and Picsart, a well-known photo editing platform, have partnered to introduce an innovative AI image generator. This tool is designed to tackle the copyright issues that have been problematic for existing AI image generation models.

Exclusive Use of Licensed Stock Images

The primary distinction of this generator is its training data. Unlike other models that may use a variety of sources, the Picsart and Getty generator will exclusively utilize licensed stock images from Getty Images. This approach ensures that all content used to train the AI model is authorized for commercial use. Both companies are promoting this method as a "responsible, commercially-safe" alternative. Images produced by this model will come with full commercial rights, enabling users to incorporate them into their projects without any copyright concerns.

Similar to Adobe’s recent initiative with their Firefly AI model, the Picsart and Getty tool will be a paid service available only to Picsart’s subscribing users. This strategy avoids the controversy associated with Adobe’s potential plan to use user-generated content for training their AI model.

Getty is committed to maintaining ethical standards. They have assured users that photographers whose work is included in the training data will be "compensated creators included in the dataset on an annual basis."

    Expected Release

Although a specific release date has not been announced, the Picsart and Getty Images AI image generator is anticipated to launch later this year. It will be available through Picsart’s API services, facilitating integration with various creative workflows.

  • Panasonic Lumix S9 Sales Surge Amid Supply Shortages

Panasonic Lumix S9 Sales Surge Amid Supply Shortages

The Panasonic Lumix S9 has been at the center of controversy recently due to allegations that it used stock images taken with a Nikon camera. The company has faced some difficulties since announcing the Lumix S9 earlier this year. Ahead of its official shipping date of June 20, Panasonic has issued a statement indicating that there will be delays in delivering the camera.

    Customer Demand and Delivery Delays

Despite the criticism surrounding the promotional images of the Lumix S9, customers remain eager to purchase the compact full-frame camera, leading to potential delivery delays. In a recent statement, Panasonic reiterated its mistake in using stock images from other brands to advertise the Lumix S9. The company confirmed that due to higher-than-expected pre-orders, some customers who pre-ordered the camera might not receive it on the release date.

    Comparisons with Fujifilm Models

The current supply issues with the Lumix S9 have led to comparisons with the Fujifilm X100V and X100VI models, both of which are compact cameras that garnered significant interest from fans and customers. Fujifilm struggled to meet demand for these models for extended periods. It remains to be seen if the Panasonic Lumix S9 will experience similar supply challenges.
