    The troubles with DisplayPort 2.1 continue. Recently, it took HP two months to acknowledge that the Omen Transcend 32 does not support Ultra-High Bit Rate 20 (UHBR20), which allows for transfer speeds of 80 Gbit/s (DP80) through one DisplayPort 2.1 connection. Now, LG has found itself in a similar situation with the UltraGear OLED 27GX790A, which was launched just this month.

    Clarification on Specifications

    Initially, there were claims that the UltraGear OLED 27GX790A was equipped with an 80 Gbit/s DisplayPort 2.1 connection, similar to the Gigabyte Aorus FO32U2P. However, LG later corrected this statement, confirming that the monitor actually uses the lower UHBR13.5 standard. As a result, the UltraGear OLED 27GX790A only provides around 54 Gbit/s through DisplayPort 2.1.

    Impact on Performance

    Because of this limitation, the monitor cannot support its native 1440p resolution and 480 Hz refresh rate without some form of compression. It is forced to use Display Stream Compression (DSC) to achieve the desired frame rate and resolution, much like the ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDP and Inzone M10S (currently priced at $999.99 on Amazon).

    In essence, gaming at 1440p and 480 Hz will result in some loss of quality. Meanwhile, LG has started accepting pre-orders for the monitor, which is currently only available in the US.     The Q27G4ZDB features a QD-OLED panel from Samsung Display. Unlike the recent Gigabyte MO27Q2, it does not use a 360 Hz QD-OLED panel like other monitors launched earlier this year.     This monitor also delivers 98% coverage of the Adobe RGB color space and can reach a peak HDR brightness of 1,000 nits (APL 3%). However, it’s worth noting that the overall brightness drops to 450 nits when HDR content is displayed, and to just 250 nits in SDR mode.     AOC has designed an ergonomic arm for the Q27G4ZDB, allowing for swivel, tilt, and pivot adjustments, with a height adjustment of up to 320 mm.
