Roborock Saros 10R Robot Vacuum Unveiled at CES 2025

Roborock has introduced a new addition to its Saros flagship line: the Saros 10R. This vacuum shares a lot of features with the Saros Z70, and both will be displayed at CES 2025 soon.

    Powerful Suction and Advanced Features

The Saros 10R provides suction power of up to 19,000Pa, which is a bit less than the 22,000Pa of the Z70. It uses the same DuoDivide Main Brush, FlexiArm Riser Side Brush, and Dual Spinning Mops for cleaning floors. Furthermore, it can easily navigate over obstacles up to 4 cm (approximately 1.6 inches) high due to the AdaptiLift Chassis. With a height of just 7.98 cm (about 3.1 inches), the Saros 10R is among the thinnest models in Roborock’s lineup and features the new VertiBeam Lateral Obstacle Avoidance technology. It’s also equipped with the StarSight Autonomous System 2.0, which combines ToF sensors and RGB cameras for smooth navigation around your home.

    Smart Docking Options

Customers have the option to purchase the Multifunctional Dock 4.0, which comes with enhanced smart cleaning functions. This includes the ability to wash the mops with hotter water, up to 80°C (around 176°F), as well as the option to detach the mop when vacuuming carpets. Additionally, the dock supports new fast charging technology, allowing the vacuum to be fully charged in just 2.5 hours. A future OTA update will let the vacuum support the Matter 1.4 protocol for seamless integration with Apple Home, and it is already compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

    Launch and Pricing Information

Roborock plans to release the Saros 10R along with the Saros 10 in the US and EU in January. Both models are expected to be priced at $1,599.99 in the US, though the European price is still unconfirmed. In North America, this pricing aligns the Saros 10 series with the recently launched Qrevo Edge, which is available on Amazon.

Roborock’s new offering promises to be a strong competitor in the market, maintaining a balance of performance and smart technology.

  • Plasma Reactor Creates Future Fuel with Zero CO₂ Emissions

Plasma Reactor Creates Future Fuel with Zero CO₂ Emissions

The Haber-Bosch method is essential for modern farming, allowing for the mass production of ammonia. This process operates under high pressure and temperatures near 500°C, converting nitrogen, which is abundant in the atmosphere, into ammonia. It also generates hydrogen, usually sourced from fossil fuels.

    Energy Usage and Environmental Impact

About 1% of the global energy use is linked to this ammonia production method, and its contribution to worldwide CO₂ emissions is even more significant. So far, the adverse effects on the environment from agriculture reliant on synthetic nitrogen fertilizers have not been discussed.

    Rethinking Ammonia Production

It’s crucial to reevaluate this century-old process, as ammonia is vital for more than just agriculture. The molecule, made up of one nitrogen atom and three hydrogen atoms, can also be created through natural means.

    Natural Processes of Ammonia Formation

In nature, light can break apart nitrogen in the air. Then, rain brings nitrogen oxides down to the ground and into the soil. There, bacteria and fungi transform them into ammonia with the aid of water, acting as a natural fertilizer, which is a key aspect of organic farming.

Researchers at the University of Buffalo in New York have designed a plasma reactor that replicates this natural method. It harnesses electricity from solar panels to turn air into plasma. A catalyst composed of copper and palladium triggers a reaction between nitrogen oxides and water to produce ammonia.

    New Developments in Ammonia Production

Currently, this small test setup can create 1 gram of ammonia each day at room temperature, utilizing air without generating CO₂ emissions. Scientists are already developing a larger plasma reactor that could offer local and sustainable nitrogen fertilizer, especially in areas where traditional industrial production methods are not feasible.

    Advantages of Ammonia Over Hydrogen

Additionally, ammonia is easier to store and use compared to hydrogen. It also boasts a much higher energy density per liter. Fuel cells designed for ammonia have been around for many years, and large-scale industrial storage systems have been experimented with for quite some time, despite not being completely safe. However, the same risks apply to hydrogen, oil, and natural gas.

This is particularly handy for situations when the robot needs to carry heavy items, with a capacity of up to 3,500 lbs (around 1,600 kg). Additionally, the robot now comes with changeable antennas—short ones for summer use and longer ones designed for snowy conditions. The improvements are supported by the new Yarbo Data Center, which utilizes Halow technology to enhance connectivity with better stability and extended range.

    Experience It Live

Those who visit CES in Las Vegas will have the chance to see the upgraded Yarbo in action. This garden robot is highly adaptable, capable of handling a multitude of tasks, including mowing lawns, removing snow and leaves, and transporting various loads like garden waste.

A catalyst made from copper and palladium triggers reactions between nitrogen oxides and water to create ammonia.

Currently, this small testing setup can produce 1 gram of ammonia each day at room temperature, pulling directly from the air without generating CO₂ emissions. Scientists are already working on a larger plasma reactor that could provide sustainable and localized nitrogen fertilizer, particularly in areas where traditional industrial methods are not feasible.

Moreover, ammonia is regarded as easier to store and manage compared to hydrogen, with a much higher energy density per liter. Fuel cells that use ammonia have been around for a long time, and large industrial storage systems have also been tested, although they do carry some risks. The same concerns apply to hydrogen, oil, and natural gas too.

  • Xiaomi’s Affordable Compact Smart Display with Video Call Support

Xiaomi’s Affordable Compact Smart Display with Video Call Support

Xiaomi has introduced a new small smart display. This gadget has some things in common with the Echo Show, but it’s made for a different purpose. The Xiaomi Smart Camera Video Call Version focuses more on video calls than on playing media. It features a camera, a microphone, and a 3.5-inch screen with a resolution of 320 x 480, making it suitable for quick video chats. The target audience seems to be young people and families who need a device that is easy to use for connecting with others.

Easy to Use for Quick Calls

Making calls is as easy as touching the screen. However, Xiaomi has linked the device with WeChat, which is very popular in China but not as well-known in other countries. Because of this, the Xiaomi Smart Camera might not be very useful for video calls outside of China. Additionally, the device can act as a security camera. It has a wide-angle lens of 131° and a 4-megapixel resolution, along with infrared lighting for night recording. Users can upload pictures to the cloud, save them on an SD card, or store them on a network drive. The device also comes with AI features that can detect humans.

    Pricing and Availability

Right now, the product is up for grabs in China for about $40. There are no updates about when it might be released globally.
