  • Union Blames Ubisoft CEO for Crisis, Demands Resignation

Union Blames Ubisoft CEO for Crisis, Demands Resignation

    Key Takeaways

    1. French trade union Solidaires Informatique is demanding the resignation of Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot due to the company’s current struggles.
    2. Union representatives blame Guillemot for the company’s issues, expressing a lack of trust in his leadership.
    3. Criticism has arisen over nepotism after Guillemot’s son was appointed as co-CEO, with concerns about the lack of diversity in senior positions.
    4. The union believes the absence of diverse leadership negatively impacts creativity within the company.
    5. An international strike is planned for February 10–12, 2026, to unite workers in response to management’s actions.

After a number of studio shutdowns, canceled initiatives, and internal conflicts regarding the return to the office, the situation at Ubisoft seems more delicate than ever. Now, officials from the French trade union Solidaires Informatique are vocally requesting the resignation of CEO Yves Guillemot. This demand comes after interviews with Game Developer that were also reported by Insider Gaming.

    Blame on the CEO

Union spokespeople Marc Rutschlé and Chakib Mataoui are pointing fingers directly at Yves Guillemot. As the CEO, he is ultimately accountable for the company’s current condition. “At the end of the day, it’s his company,” Rutschlé remarks. Nevertheless, trust has dwindled to a point where expectations for a positive solution seem quite low. “I expect nothing from this guy,” the union member adds. In addition to Guillemot stepping down, the union is also calling for a complete restructuring of the management board.

    Criticism of Nepotism

The recent decision to appoint Charlie, Yves Guillemot’s son, as co-CEO of a new Ubisoft branch has sparked significant backlash. The union lashes out at the company for nepotism and for nurturing a closed-off leadership atmosphere. Mataoui highlights the absence of diversity in senior positions, pointing out that executive roles are predominantly occupied by white men from the CEO’s close circle. He asserts that this lack of diversity hinders creativity: “We operate in a creative field. We require fresh ideas to come in and assist us in creating fantastic new games. But we’ve got none of that.”

    Upcoming International Strike

In light of these recent occurrences, an international strike is planned for February 10–12, 2026. This action is being coordinated by Solidaires Informatique along with other French labor unions. Rutschlé is encouraging employees globally to band together, stating that if management operates on a worldwide level, then workers should as well. It remains unclear whether Yves Guillemot will respond to the union’s requests—and in what manner.

  • Generative AI in GTA 6: Take-Two CEO Discusses Development Strategy

Generative AI in GTA 6: Take-Two CEO Discusses Development Strategy

    Key Takeaways

    1. Hideo Kojima believes AI will significantly change gaming in the next 5 to 10 years.
    2. Strauss Zelnick states that AI will not impact the creative aspects of game development for GTA 6.
    3. Rockstar Games is building game environments manually, without procedural or generative content.
    4. Take-Two uses AI and machine learning as supportive tools to improve efficiency and reduce costs, but not for creative content.
    5. GTA 6 is confirmed for release on November 19, 2026, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The discussion around artificial intelligence in the realm of game development is gaining significant attention. Hideo Kojima, the mind behind Metal Gear, has expressed his belief that AI will transform the gaming landscape in the next 5 to 10 years. Recently, Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two, added his thoughts on this topic concerning GTA 6. His main point is that AI will be a factor, but it won’t influence the creative side of the game’s development.

    Crafting Game Worlds by Hand

Zelnick pointed out that the game environments at Rockstar Games are still meticulously created without automation. For instance, Vice City is being constructed “building by building, street by street.” In a discussion with GamesIndustry.biz, he made it clear that there’s no use of procedural or generative content in the making of GTA VI.

    AI as a Supportive Tool

Nonetheless, this doesn’t imply that Take-Two is completely turning its back on AI. Zelnick mentioned that the publisher has been utilizing machine learning and AI technologies for several years, but only in a supportive capacity. The aim here is to enhance efficiency, reduce expenses, and streamline workflows. He noted that numerous AI pilot projects are currently active across different studios, yet none focus on creating creative content. Zelnick firmly stated his view on AI and creativity: “There is no creativity that can exist by definition in any AI model, because it is data-driven.”

    Exciting News for Fans

For fans, there’s good news as well: Take-Two has once again confirmed the anticipated launch date for GTA 6 in its latest quarterly report. The game is scheduled to be released on November 19, 2026. At its launch, it will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5 (which is currently listed at $490 on Amazon) and Xbox Series X|S. There hasn’t been an official announcement regarding a PC version yet.

  • Xbox Studios Launches Cross-Platform PS5 Games for Profit

Xbox Studios Launches Cross-Platform PS5 Games for Profit

    Key Takeaways

    1. Microsoft’s CFO, Amy Hood, initially set a 30% profit margin target for Xbox Game Studios, but this has been denied by the company, suggesting a more realistic goal of 17-22%.

    2. Obsidian Entertainment’s CEO, Feargus Urquhart, highlighted the challenges faced by developers, with only one out of three launched titles meeting sales expectations.

    3. To cut costs and improve efficiency, Urquhart plans to shorten development times and outsource parts of projects, while also reusing technology from previous games.

    4. Microsoft’s aggressive acquisition strategy, including the purchase of Obsidian, has faced criticism, with concerns about price hikes and studio shutdowns.

    5. The shift to cross-platform gaming, allowing Xbox titles on PS5, may help meet profit targets but could weaken loyalty to the Xbox ecosystem.

Bloomberg first reported that Microsoft’s CFO, Amy Hood, has set a target of a 30% profit margin for its Xbox Game Studios. However, the company has since denied this statement, while Obsidian Entertainment’s CEO, Feargus Urquhart, hints at a different story. A new piece has also indicated that cross-platform Xbox games are being launched on the PS5 to achieve this ambitious goal.

    Developer Challenges

In an interview with Jason Schreier, Urquhart discussed a busy time for his team, who launched Avowed, The Outer Worlds 2, and Grounded 2 all in the same year. Sadly, only the latter, which is a survival game riddled with bugs, has managed to meet sales expectations. Urquhart has expressed some worries but believes that through experimentation, they can create more successful titles.

    Cutting Costs

The CEO aims to shorten the lengthy development times for Xbox titles, which can annoy gamers and increase budgets. By outsourcing various parts of projects to other studios, they can enhance efficiency. Urquhart is also open to reusing technology from previous games when it makes sense.

Despite efforts to lower costs, Urquhart acknowledges, “maybe where we are going to be from a profitability standpoint isn’t going to be 30%.” Even though Amy Hood has rejected the claim, it appears that certain Xbox Studios are still expected to meet this elevated bar. A target of 17-22% seems to be a more realistic goal within the gaming sector.

    Microsoft’s Acquisition Strategy

After acquiring Obsidian in 2018, Microsoft has continued to aggressively pursue acquisitions. Critics argue that this approach is reckless. Analysts have pointed to price hikes and the shutdown of some Xbox Studios as evidence of misguided strategies. Another controversial move highlighted in the Bloomberg report is the shift towards supporting cross-platform gaming.

A number of Xbox-exclusive titles are now also accessible on the PS5, with Forza Horizon 6 and Fable set for release on the console in 2026. While this decision may help in reaching the 30% profit margin target, it has also contributed to challenges for the Series X|S. Some fans feel there are fewer incentives to remain loyal to the Xbox ecosystem, which could have negative consequences for Microsoft’s long-term gaming ambitions.

Squanch Games and Xbox have revealed a fresh limited-edition controller inspired by High on Life 2 through Xbox Design Lab. This sequel is scheduled to be released on February 13, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a day-one availability on Game Pass. Before the game hits the shelves, fans can grab a matching Xbox Series X controller, which is currently available through Design Lab.

    Colorful Design

The High on Life 2 theme for the Design Lab offers a vibrant and colorful look for the Xbox Series X controller. The front showcases a semi-transparent faceplate along with black handles, while blue joysticks, pink ABXY buttons, and yellow menu buttons create a striking contrast. On the back, there’s a bold pink rear shell that pairs with green bumpers and gold triggers. This design is a lively reimagining that reflects the loud and chaotic style of High on Life 2.

    Pro-Level Performance

As anticipated, the Elite controller includes features aimed at professional gamers like adjustable-tension thumbsticks, rear paddles, shorter hair-trigger locks, and a rubberized grip. 5. Pricing and availability are not yet confirmed, but it is expected to be in the $499 to $699 range, based on comparisons to the ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG.

Asus is preparing to introduce the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 dual-mode 4K monitor, also known as the XG27UCGR. This model was unveiled at CES 2026 alongside the ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG, which has already launched, and it enhances the XG27UCG from 2024 (currently priced at $337.99 on Amazon) by providing improved refresh rates for both 4K and 1080p resolutions. The monitor has now been added to the Asus website, indicating that its release is just around the corner.

    Features of the Monitor

At its heart, the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 features a Fast IPS display with a 4K resolution and a native refresh rate of 162 Hz. It can also switch to a much quicker 485 Hz mode when set to 1080p, which is a significant improvement over the earlier XG27UCG’s 4K/160 Hz and 1080p/320 Hz DFR modes, especially for gamers. Moreover, it boasts a 0.3 ms response time, along with support for FreeSync Premium and G-Sync to ensure smooth and tear-free gaming experiences.

    Display and Design

While the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 lacks mini-LED backlighting or local dimming features, it still manages to deliver a decent 1300:1 contrast ratio and peak brightness of up to 600 nits in HDR mode. It holds a DisplayHDR 400 certification and covers 95% of the DCI-P3 color range alongside 130% of sRGB. Connectivity Options

For connectivity, the ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 comes equipped with DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1 that supports 4K/120 Hz console gaming, USB-C, and a headphone output. Unfortunately, the USB-C port only provides 15W, which is insufficient for charging most laptops. On the bright side, the stand is fully adjustable, allowing for tilt, height, swivel, and pivot adjustments.

The Asus ROG Strix XG27UCG Gen2 (XG27UCGR) is now featured on the Asus website, but its pricing and availability have yet to be confirmed. For context, the ROG Strix 5K XG27JCG, which offers 5K/180 Hz and 1440p/330 Hz modes, is priced at $849, suggesting that this model might fall within the $499 to $699 price range. Meanwhile, the older ROG Strix XG27UCG with a refresh rate of 160 Hz and a 320 Hz mode is currently available on Amazon for $337.99, which is 25% lower than its original price of $449.

  • Markiplier’s Iron Lung Movie Earns $21.5M from $3M Budget

Markiplier’s Iron Lung Movie Earns $21.5M from $3M Budget

    Key Takeaways

    1. Game Concept: Iron Lung is a horror simulation game set in a dark future where players control a convict navigating a vast ocean of human blood inside a submarine.

    2. Setting: The game takes place after the “Quiet Rapture,” a mysterious event that left humanity searching for new homes in space, leading to the discovery of the barren moon AT-5.

    3. Player Experience: The convict’s mission is to scout living conditions for humanity’s survival, with gameplay limited to the sub’s small space and communication through a radio.

    4. Critical Acclaim: Upon release in 2022, Iron Lung received positive reviews for its narrative, atmosphere, and sound design, gaining popularity among gamers and streamers.

    5. Film Adaptation: YouTuber Markiplier was inspired by the game to create a film adaptation, which grossed approximately $21.5 million in its opening weekend with a budget of $3 million.

Iron Lung is a horror simulation game made by David Szymanski and launched in 2022. In this eerie game, players take on the role of a nameless prisoner who is chosen as a test subject to navigate a massive ocean of blood on a foreign moon, inside a dilapidated submarine called the Iron Lung.

    A Distant Future

The setting is a dark and far-off future where humans have expanded into space after a strange event known as the “Quiet Rapture,” which caused all stars and livable planets to disappear, leaving only those in space stations or ships. To ensure the survival of humanity, the remnants send out teams to find a new home and stumble upon AT-5, a barren moon. Upon further investigation, they discover a vast ocean on this forsaken moon, but it is not water—it is an ocean of human blood.

    The Convict’s Mission

The one chosen to investigate living conditions is a convict, sent to delve into the dark, bloody depths. The game occurs within this tiny craft, which is essentially an early version of an experiment that uses an expendable life form. In return for completing this scouting mission, the convict is promised freedom. The sub is mostly sealed off from the outside; players can see through a secured window, and using a camera that mostly captures unclear images, their only means of communication is via radio.

    Acclaimed Success

Upon its release, the game became a massive success, lauded for its narrative and overall atmosphere, particularly its sound design, with enthusiastic reviews from fans, including renowned YouTuber Mark ‘Markiplier’ Fischbach. He was so impressed with the game that he chose to turn it into a film, which he would finance, produce, direct, and act in. With an estimated budget of $3 million, the film has had an amazing start at the box office, earning around $21.5 million worldwide in just one weekend.

Markiplier and Szymanski were both deeply moved by this success. In a conversation with Variety, the streamer was emotional as he revealed his intentions to reward the film crew, stating, “I’m going to be able to give the crew a big bonus. That’s awesome. I’m not a big studio. So the split with the theaters is basically 50-50. It’s really cool because everybody wins.”

  • Epic Games Store Boosts Performance and Adds Steam-Like Features

Epic Games Store Boosts Performance and Adds Steam-Like Features

    Key Takeaways

    1. Epic Games Store reached 78 million monthly active users in 2025, spending over $400 million on third-party games.
    2. Users dedicated 2.78 billion hours to playing third-party games, aided by weekly free game offerings.
    3. The Epic Games Store still trails behind Steam in revenue, player count, and software quality.
    4. Epic Games plans to improve the store’s performance, including faster response times and better stability.
    5. New features will include customizable profiles, voice chat across games, and cross-platform purchases for compatible games.

In 2025, the Epic Games Store set multiple records for itself, achieving a remarkable 78 million monthly active users last year. These users spent over $400 million on third-party games, excluding Fortnite. In total, customers dedicated 2.78 billion hours to playing third-party games, with a significant portion likely due to the free games offered weekly.

    Epic’s Standing Compared to Steam

While the Epic Games Store has seen impressive numbers, it still lags behind Steam in several areas, including revenue, active player count, and software quality. The Epic Games Store tends to use more system resources than Steam, is slower to respond to mouse clicks, and is missing several handy features. However, changes are on the horizon, as Epic Games has announced plans to revamp much of the Epic Games Store’s code. Starting this summer, users can expect improved response times, reduced loading times, and better overall stability.

    New Features and Enhancements

Moreover, Epic Games aims to implement many of the community features that Steam offers, allowing players to build a more personalized profile complete with avatars. Players will also be able to chat with friends through voice chat, which won’t be limited to specific games, making it functional even when not everyone is playing the same game. To facilitate this, Epic Games will be rolling out friend groups in the second quarter of 2026. Additionally, games that can be played on both smartphones and PCs will be purchasable once, granting access to both platforms in the future.

  • AMD CEO Tips for 2027 Xbox Release, Denies Steam Machine Delay

AMD CEO Tips for 2027 Xbox Release, Denies Steam Machine Delay

    Key Takeaways

    1. AMD’s CEO Lisa Su confirmed that the development of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox console is progressing well, aiming for a 2027 launch.
    2. Valve’s Steam Machine, powered by AMD technology, is on track to ship in early 2026, despite concerns over rising memory prices.
    3. The new Xbox is expected to feature a premium design, potentially leading to a high price point due to increased memory costs and advanced specifications.
    4. The Steam Machine will have less powerful specs, utilizing an AMD Zen 4 processor and RDNA 3 architecture, but may face delays due to rising DDR5 costs.
    5. Market reactions are mixed, with some questioning Microsoft’s strategy to continue selling hardware amid declining gaming revenue from the Xbox Series X|S.

Despite some doubts about new gaming systems, AMD’s CEO Lisa Su has minimized the likelihood of delays. She gave updates on the future Xbox console and the Steam Machine, both of which depend on AMD’s technology. The Xbox is aiming for a launch in 2027, while Valve is set to roll out its SteamOS cube in early 2026.

    Updates from the Earnings Call

On February 3rd, during an earnings call, Su shared her insights, which were later reported by Wario64 on social media and GamesBeat. She stated, “From a product standpoint, Valve is on-track to begin shipping its AMD-powered Steam Machine early this year, and development of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027.”

    Concerns Over Pricing

There have been rumors suggesting that a new Xbox console might launch within the timeframe mentioned by Su. However, increasing memory prices have caused some insiders to question if Microsoft will adhere to this timeline. Xbox President Sarah Bond has described the upcoming device as “very premium,” which raises concerns about its price point.

When it eventually launches, the system is expected to include an AMD Magnus APU, featuring an 11-core Zen 6 CPU and RDNA 5 support. This console/PC hybrid may require 36GB or more of GDDR7 RAM. Considering the memory shortage’s impact on the GPU market, the console could become quite expensive.

    Steam Machine Specifications

On the other hand, the specs for the Steam Machine are less powerful, featuring an AMD Zen 4 processor. Even though this Linux-based console will support 4K connectivity, it uses the RDNA 3 architecture. Nonetheless, due to soaring DDR5 costs, some analysts believe Valve might postpone its release, originally set for Q1 2026.

It’s crucial to mention that Su did not assure that the next Xbox console would be available in 2027. While the chipset development is moving swiftly, various factors could disrupt that schedule.

    Market Reactions

Some critics are questioning whether Microsoft should keep selling hardware altogether. The decline in gaming revenue partly due to the performance of the Xbox Series X|S has raised doubts about the company’s decision to invest in a more costly system. Only time will tell if this strategy is truly beneficial.

  • GTA 6 Release Date: Physical Version Confirmed Amid Delay Rumors

GTA 6 Release Date: Physical Version Confirmed Amid Delay Rumors

    Key Takeaways

    1. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that GTA 6 will have physical editions available at launch, dismissing rumors of a digital-only release.
    2. There are concerns about potential delays for physical copies, which could last 3 to 4 weeks, but this may help control leaks of the game.
    3. The gaming industry is increasingly shifting towards digital sales, but fans of physical copies can still expect to have a retail version of GTA 6.
    4. Zelnick expressed confidence that the game will release as scheduled on November 19, 2026, despite previous delays.
    5. A marketing campaign is set to begin this Summer, possibly including a new trailer to showcase the game’s progress.

Fans of physical media can relax a bit after comments made by Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick. In a conversation with Variety, he dismissed rumors suggesting that only digital editions would be released on the GTA 6 launch date. Following the recent quarterly earnings report, Rockstar Games is on track to meet its deadline of November 19th, 2026.

    Clarifying the Strategy

When questioned about a potential digital-only approach, Strauss stated to Variety, “That’s not the plan.” This was a relief for many gamers who were concerned that the company might postpone the release of physical copies. A report from Polish site PPE.pl indicated that physical versions might experience delays of 3 to 4 weeks or even longer.

    Impact of Delays

Such a delay could help reduce the number of leaks surrounding GTA 6, something Rockstar has been trying to control. It’s common for at least one retailer to release a new game early, as seen with Nintendo titles. Even though the game is expected to achieve record sales, this choice might also delay reviews from coming out in a timely manner.

Despite the skepticism from fans regarding the PPE report, it’s worth noting that the source has made accurate predictions in the past. Nevertheless, the gaming industry has been shifting towards a digital-first model. Consumers who once hesitated are now more comfortable with downloading their purchases. By going digital, Take-Two could see a rise in profits due to the absence of production expenses.

    Good News for Traditionalists

Fans who prefer physical copies will still have the chance to showcase a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S retail box when GTA 6 launches. So far, there haven’t been any leaks about possible collector’s editions that include additional items.

Zelnick shared some encouraging news with IGN. When asked whether GTA 6 would be released as planned, he said, “I feel good about it. Very good about it.” However, it’s worth noting that he had similar sentiments before the last delay was revealed in November 2025.

    Marketing Plans Ahead

The company has plans to kick off a marketing campaign this Summer. A new trailer or other media could help convince doubters that Rockstar is making significant progress.

    Shipping Updates

As noted in an update on their Discord channel, Abxylute stated that shipping started today, February 3rd. Just like they mentioned back in November, the initial batch consists of only 80 units, which will go to backers who have already made their payments. Depending on the chosen shipping method, recipients should expect their deliveries to arrive within a week at the soonest.

    Production Plans

Abxylute has also informed everyone that the second batch of orders is already in processing, with production schedules being set up. However, these units are not anticipated to ship until after the Chinese New Year festivities, which wrap up on March 3.

Now that the campaign is over, interested customers can still pre-order it from the Abxylute website, though it is now priced slightly higher at $1,599.
