Casio has introduced its latest Pro Trek series featuring the PRG-69-1 and PRG-69-4 models, marking the first time digital Pro Trek watches have moved away from the traditional round design to a more edgy, angular style. These watches were first noted last month through a French retailer, but the PRG-69 series is now officially announced, showing up on both Casio International and Casio Japan’s websites. Interestingly, a third model, the PRG-69B-1, has also been disclosed, which was not part of the initial leak or retail listing.

Unique Features of PRG-69B-1

The newly launched PRG-69B-1 is functionally the same as its square counterparts, retaining the flame-resistant, bio-based casing and the dual-layer “Duplex” LCD. The key difference lies in its strap; while the PRG-69-1 and PRG-69-4 come with bio-derived urethane straps, the PRG-69B-1 features a cloth band made from recycled PET plastic fibers, lending it a rugged outdoor vibe. Visually, it also stands out with gold compass markings on the bezel, contrasting with the orange and white accents of the PRG-69-1 and PRG-69-4.

Design and Aesthetics

All three models embody a shared design essence. The angular casing draws inspiration from the PRW-6900 (currently priced at $403), but it brings a more industrial and tactical flair. The display is safeguarded by a mineral crystal, and the flame-resistant material ensures safety during outdoor activities like camping and cooking.

The PRG-69 features a dual-layer Duplex LCD that showcases colorful compass graphics on the top layer, while the bottom layer displays time and additional information. Additionally, there’s a compact dot-matrix sub-display at the top for extra data, such as the date, day, and trends in barometric pressure.

Advanced Sensor Technology

Each of the three models includes a Triple Sensor system (ABC sensors), which offers a digital compass, altimeter, barometer, and thermometer, complemented by Tough Solar charging capabilities.

The new Pro Trek models, PRG-69-1 and PRG-69-4, are set to launch in Japan first, with sales commencing later in February. Both models are priced at ¥29,700 ($189.50). As for the PRG-69B-1, its pricing and availability remain unannounced, but it’s expected to be in the same price range. These watches are likely to reach global markets, including Europe, around March. As previously mentioned, they are already available for preorder at the French retailer David et Philly for €200, with a shipping date set for March 20.
