Canon RF-S3.9mm F3.5 Dual Fisheye Lens with 144-Degree Angle

Canon RF-S3.9mm F3.5 Dual Fisheye Lens with 144-Degree Angle

Canon has introduced a new virtual reality (VR) lens that is both compact and lightweight. Known as the Canon RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM dual fisheye, this lens is set to hit the market later this month. Notably, it is the first non-L class VR lens to feature the brand's Air Spherical Coating technology, which enhances its anti-reflection capabilities.

Designed for APS-C EOS R7

Tailored specifically for the APS-C EOS R7 mirrorless camera, this lens offers a user-friendly option for VR photography enthusiasts. It is the premier VR lens in the RF-S series and boasts a 144-degree ultra-wide angle view. When paired with the EOS R7, it functions as a lightweight 3D VR shooting setup. The lens includes a built-in refractive prism and an optimized structure, fulfilling the needs for short back focus and optical path bending.

Comparable Resolution

The resolution achieved by the EOS R7 in combination with the new VR lens is on par with that of the EOS R5 paired with the RF5.2mm F2.8 L DUAL FISHEYE. The pixel density per 1-degree angle of view is also similar to that of the RF5.2mm F2.8 L DUAL FISHEYE. The VR lens has an electromagnetically driven aperture in both the left and right lenses, ensuring consistent exposure across the two lenses.

Advanced Autofocus and Conversion Capabilities

Equipped with a stepping motor, the Canon RF-S3.9mm F3.5 lens features dual-lens autofocus functionality. This allows for synchronized autofocus for both lenses. The EOS VR system's workflow includes shooting, viewing, converting, and editing, with the EOS VR Utility application enabling the conversion of videos and photos into VR content.

The Canon RF-S3.9mm F3.5 lens is expected to be available later this month. However, details regarding its pricing and the availability of optics are still under wraps.
