Canon R6 Mark III Leak: 6K Oversampled C4K and Hybrid Features

Fresh news has come to light suggesting that the Canon EOS R6 Mark III is likely to be launched in the early part of 2025. Additionally, leaked details hint at an exciting upgrade from the EOS R6 Mark II, which is currently priced at $1,999 on Amazon, reduced from its original MSRP of $2,499. This previous model was introduced in November 2022, and the new camera, noted as DS126941, is said to come with a 24-megapixel LC1720 sensor, improving on the 20-megapixel sensor found in the earlier version.

Enhanced Performance Features

The Canon EOS R6 Mark III is rumored to come with a DIGIC Accelerator processor that will enable 8.5-stop collaborative image stabilization. Moreover, it will feature an enhanced autofocus system likened to the one in the EOS R5 II. Other features that have leaked include a 14-bit RAW electronic shutter that can achieve 30 frames per second continuous shooting, with a readout speed of 1/180s. Furthermore, it is expected to include neural network-based noise reduction and high-resolution magnification.

Video Capabilities

On the video front, reports indicate that this camera will support XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S recording in 4K120p, alongside 6K oversampled C4K. This “oversampled C4K” means that video is captured at a higher resolution, like 6K, and then scaled down to 4K, generating sharper images. It will also enable 6K30p and 4K60p Cinema RAW Light recording, which could be quite beneficial for filmmakers. It appears that dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity will also be included.

If these leaked specifications are accurate, the Canon EOS R6 Mark III might establish a new standard in the mid-range mirrorless camera segment, especially with its cutting-edge video features such as 6K oversampled C4K and Cinema RAW Light recording. Earlier this year, in July, the company also released the EOS R5 Mark II along with the EOS R1.
