Blackmagic Design has unveiled the Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive, a camera specifically crafted for capturing spatial video content for Apple’s Vision Pro headset. This cutting-edge device redefines the scope of cinematic capture for virtual reality.
Advanced Capture Capabilities
Equipped with a specialized stereoscopic 3D lens system and dual 8K sensors, the URSA Cine Immersive captures a 180-degree field of view with spatial audio. This advanced setup ensures viewers are fully immersed, with each eye viewing content at a resolution of 8,160 x 7,200 pixels. The camera features 16 stops of dynamic range for precise color rendering, even in varying lighting conditions. Additionally, it can shoot stereoscopic 3D content at a fluid 90 frames per second, enhancing the immersive experience.
Robust Design and Connectivity
The camera's build includes a sturdy magnesium alloy chassis and a lightweight, yet durable, carbon fiber polycarbonate composite skin. Dual 5-inch HDR touchscreens offer user-friendly camera controls and monitoring, complemented by an external color status LCD for essential shooting data. Connectivity options are extensive: 12G-SDI out for video, 10G Ethernet for fast networking, USB-C for external storage, and XLR ports for professional audio. An 8-pin Lemo connector ensures reliable power supply.
Ample Storage and Seamless Integration
Featuring a built-in 8TB Blackmagic Media Module, the URSA Cine Immersive can store approximately two hours of 8K stereoscopic video in Blackmagic RAW format. The camera also supports Cloud Store, facilitating easy media uploads and synchronization via the 10G Ethernet connection, ideal for collaborative projects.
To enhance the functionality of the URSA Cine Immersive, Blackmagic Design is updating their DaVinci Resolve editing software. The update will include a new immersive video viewer, allowing editors to adjust the pan, tilt, and roll of clips for optimal viewing on both 2D monitors and the Apple Vision Pro headset.
Pricing and Availability
The official pricing for the URSA Cine Immersive camera has not yet been announced. Given that the Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K camera is priced at $14,995 (body only), the new immersive camera is expected to be in a similar range, with additional costs for the specialized dual-lens system. This innovation marks a significant advancement in capturing virtual reality content, particularly with its seamless integration with Apple’s Vision Pro headset.
