Audio-Technica has recently launched a new condenser microphone called the AT2020USB-XP, specifically tailored for content creators, streamers, and musicians. Its cardioid directional pickup pattern is designed to capture the sound source directly in front of the microphone, making it ideal for recording vocals, voiceovers, and instruments.
Integrated Auto Gain Control and Noise Reduction
The AT2020USB-XP incorporates an auto gain control feature to manage fluctuating audio levels. This microphone also includes digital noise reduction technology that can be adjusted with a button located on its base. This technology helps to minimize unwanted background noise from sources like air conditioners and PC fans, resulting in cleaner audio recordings. The automatic gain control (AGC) function automatically adjusts the microphone’s output level to maintain consistent signal strength, which is particularly useful in environments with varying audio levels. The AGC function works alongside an 80Hz high-pass filter to remove low-frequency noise without degrading the quality of voice recordings.
It's important to note that the noise reduction and AGC features are available only at certain sampling rates: 44.1kHz and 48kHz for noise reduction, and 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, or 96kHz for AGC.
Versatile Connectivity Options
The AT2020USB-XP offers flexible connection options, utilizing a USB Type-C connector and including a USB Type-C to Type-A cable to ensure compatibility with a variety of devices. A USB conversion adapter is also provided for added convenience.
The microphone features a built-in high-output headphone amplifier, enabling direct audio monitoring with headphones at a maximum sampling rate of 24-bit/192kHz. This ensures real-time monitoring of recordings.
Additional Features
A pop filter is included with the microphone to reduce plosive sounds such as p’s and b’s, which can cause unwanted pops in recordings. The microphone also comes with a stand for desktop placement. For added control and ease of use, the AT2020USB-XP includes a touch sensor that allows users to mute the microphone with a simple tap. The status of the microphone is indicated by an integrated LED light: blue for recording and red for mute.
