Xiaomi has revealed the battery specifications for its first extended-range electric vehicle line, confirming a capacity that sets a new benchmark for the category. The Skynomad series of family SUVs will carry a 76 kWh pack, delivering a pure-electric driving range of 505 km (314 miles) on a single charge under China’s CLTC testing cycle.

Record battery size in the EREV segment

At 76 kWh, the pack slightly surpasses the Leapmotor D19, which previously held the title of the largest battery ever installed in an extended-range EV. Notably, Xiaomi’s battery capacity now matches the average fully-electric vehicle, where packs typically fall between 70 and 76 kWh. The addition of a gasoline range extender effectively triples the total distance the vehicle can cover without stopping to refuel or recharge.

Powertrain efficiency and range details

The system relies on a 1.5-liter combustion engine that achieves a peak thermal efficiency above 44 percent, producing approximately 4 kWh of energy per liter of fuel for the electric drivetrain. In the Skynomad N70 Max crossover, this translates to a CLTC-rated electric range of 505 km and a combined range of 1,500 km (937 miles) when its 68-liter fuel tank is full.

  • N70 Max: 76 kWh battery, 505 km electric range, 1,500 km total range
  • N90 Max: 76 kWh battery, 480–500 km electric range (due to larger full-size body and six- or seven-seat layout)

All figures are based on the CLTC cycle, which emphasizes urban driving conditions where EVs operate most efficiently. A realistic EPA-equivalent estimate would be roughly one-third lower.

Skynomad lineup and market ambitions

Xiaomi plans to launch multiple EREV configurations under the Skynomad name, including the N90 Max Camping Edition with a retractable roof tent, alongside the N70, N70 Max, and N90 Max. The strategy positions the company to capture the growing extended-range family SUV market, echoing the rapid progress it made in the battery-electric space, where it reached profitability in just two years—a milestone that took Tesla a decade to achieve.
