Xiaomi has quietly launched a new compact photo printer for the Chinese market through its Youpin crowdfunding platform. Dubbed the Mijia Desktop Photo Printer 2, the device succeeds the 1S model with a series of hardware and connectivity upgrades aimed at lowering per-print costs while improving output quality.

Four-color dye sublimation

A central change in the new model is the shift to a four-color dye sublimation process. Xiaomi has introduced a dedicated black (K) channel, which means shadows and dark elements are handled independently rather than composited from cyan, magenta, and yellow. The practical outcome is sharper fine detail, better contrast, and more efficient ink use. This should be particularly noticeable in images with deep blacks or subtle gradients.

Wireless and multi-device support

Connectivity has also been reworked. Where the previous 1S relied on Wi‑Fi, the Desktop Photo Printer 2 includes Bluetooth 5.2, allowing direct connection to a phone, tablet, or laptop without a router. Xiaomi notes that the printer can maintain connections with multiple source devices simultaneously. Users can access built‑in templates and various print modes, and the printer supports square, 4‑inch, and 6‑inch paper formats.

Pricing and availability

Xiaomi states that printing on 4‑inch sheets can cost as little as CNY 0.99 per sheet, which is roughly $0.15 at current exchange rates. The printer itself is priced at CNY 699 on Youpin, or about $103. The company has not yet disclosed plans for an international release. In a broader market context, products such as the Kodak Dock Plus currently sell in a comparable price band, though Xiaomi’s pricing in China undercuts many alternatives before any international markup.
