Samsung’s foldable portfolio remains a moving target, and the naming puzzle surrounding its upcoming devices shows no sign of settling soon. The successors to the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 are slated for an official reveal by July 22, 2026. On the same date, the company is expected to introduce a brand-new foldable form factor that has circulated under several monikers in recent weeks.

A new shape aimed at a new competitor

This fresh design is noticeably more compact, thinner, and lighter, with a wider aspect ratio that departs from the tall, narrow proportions of previous Samsung foldables. The device is widely seen as Samsung’s direct answer to Apple’s long-rumored iPhone Fold—referred to in some circles as the iPhone Ultra—which is expected to arrive around September. It remains an open question whether Samsung can avoid repeating the lukewarm reception that met the Galaxy S25 Edge, another preemptive release timed ahead of Apple’s iPhone Air.

Naming speculation takes another turn

For months, the third foldable was referred to by insiders as the “Galaxy Z Wide Fold” or “Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide.” That changed when several reliable leakers proposed the name “Galaxy Z Fold8”—a label that caught attention precisely because it does not suggest a direct successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7. The device, as described, omits features found on established Z Fold models, most notably a third rear camera, making it more a repositioned offering than a straightforward upgrade.

Now yet another name has surfaced, seemingly backed by images of protective cases. Photos shared by X accounts including @Mohammed_K_2010 and @thinborne show packaging bearing the designation “Galaxy New Fold,” reportedly designed to fit Samsung’s new foldable form factor. The cases in the images are labeled as Kindsuit products, matching the branding Samsung uses for its premium case line.

Evidence and doubts around the “Galaxy New Fold” label

There is reason to approach the images with caution. While the packaging looks authentic, questions persist over whether the cases truly originate from Samsung. Official Kindsuit cases for the Galaxy S25 series remain available, but equivalent cases for the Galaxy S26 lineup are absent—a detail flagged by commenters following the leaks. This has raised the possibility that the products come from a third-party imitator. However, the importer listed on the packaging, Samsung Investment Co. LTD, is a verified Samsung subsidiary in China, lending significant weight to the belief that these are genuine items.

Whether “Galaxy New Fold” represents the final retail name remains unclear. Adopting such branding would mark a departure from the Galaxy Z nomenclature that has housed every Samsung foldable since the Galaxy Z Flip debuted in 2020. With the launch date fixed, the coming months should clarify whether the company plans to maintain its established naming convention or introduce an entirely new category identifier.
