Capcom has revised its launch plans for the upcoming action title Onimusha: Way of the Sword, moving the release forward by several weeks. Previously slated for a late September 2026 debut, the game will now arrive on September 4, 2026.
A Premiere Brought Forward
This accelerated schedule applies universally across all confirmed platforms. Players can expect to find the title on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via both Steam and the Epic Games Store. The shift marks an unusual move in a market frequently characterized by last-minute delays, signaling strong confidence from the development team in the project’s current state.
The game transports players to a demon-plagued early Edo-period Kyoto, casting them as the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi. Armed with a mystical Oni Gauntlet, Musashi must cut through waves of hostile Genma creatures. Game director Satoru Nihei has clarified that the title deliberately steers clear of contemporary open-world designs and gameplay mechanics commonly associated with the Souls-like genre. Instead, the studio is channeling its efforts into a more focused, classic architecture defined by linear stage progression and precise, weighty melee combat.
Classic Combat and Early Access Perks
Longtime followers of the franchise will see the return of the signature Issen system, a high-stakes mechanic that rewards players for perfectly timing their counterattacks against enemy strikes. To give audiences an early demonstration of this blade-centric action, Capcom has already distributed a playable demo across home consoles and PC. According to the publisher, players who complete the preview and retain their save data will automatically unlock an exclusive digital item, the Kubi Akari charm, in the final release.
Due to the updated timeline, Capcom has officially transitioned the standard pre-order incentives into a time-limited Early Adopter Bonus, which remains available for digital purchasers up until late September.
Adjustments on Digital Storefronts
While the date change is streamlined for most users, the sudden shift introduces a procedural hurdle for buyers on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop. Capcom confirmed that all existing digital pre-orders for the Switch 2 edition are being automatically canceled due to the revised calendar, meaning Nintendo users will need to manually re-submit their purchases. Physical pre-orders for the Nintendo platform remain completely unaffected. Meanwhile, existing digital pre-orders lodged on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC will transfer seamlessly to the new September 4 date with no action required from customers.
