Casio is bringing a refined all-black collection to the US G-Shock lineup with four new models under the “Luxe Black” series. Originally launched in Japan in June, these watches extend the popularity of the analog-digital “CasiOak” design in a more subdued direction, balancing the brand’s rugged DNA with a monochromatic, versatile look that transitions easily from casual settings to dressier occasions.

Metal-Covered Options with Refined Details

Leading the collection are two metal-covered models built around black ion-plated stainless steel bezels. The GM-2100LXB-1A pairs its dark bezel with silver accents on the dial, while the GM-2100LXB-1A9 shifts the contrast to gold highlights on the inset dials and a vapor deposition treatment around the perimeter of the glass. Casio redesigned the hour and minute hands with a slimmer profile and extended length, complementing them with new vapor-deposited hour markers on a matte black dial. The dial surface itself features a fine texture engineered to absorb light and minimize reflections, preserving legibility without breaking the quiet color scheme.

These metal-covered references remain distinct from the fully stainless steel GST G-Steel series, as the construction does not extend to a full-metal screw-back case. Instead, the design keeps a lightweight feel while introducing the visual warmth of metal at the bezel.

More Accessible Resin Alternatives

The Luxe Black series also includes two resin-based variants at a lower price point of $145: the GA-2100LXB-1A and GA-2100LXB-1A9. These swap the metal bezel for a black resin version and pair it with a smooth resin strap, while sticking closely to the all-black aesthetic. The GA-2100LXB-1A uses silver vapor-deposited hour markers, whereas the GA-2100LXB-1A9 adopts gold accents that echo the premium models, both providing a subtle metallic contrast on the dark dial.

Shared Features Across the Lineup

Beyond material choices, all four models share an identical core feature set. They offer 200-meter water resistance, world time across 31 time zones (48 cities), a 1/100-second stopwatch, a 24-hour countdown timer, five daily alarms, and dual Super Illuminator LEDs that light both the analog face and the digital display. Additional utilities include a full auto calendar through 2099, hand-shift functionality for unobstructed digital-display reading, a day-of-the-week subdial at 9 o’clock, and a small digital display cutout positioned between 4 and 6 o’clock. Power comes from two SR726W batteries, rated for approximately three years of operation.

The metal-covered GM-2100LXB-1A and GM-2100LXB-1A9 are priced at $260, while the resin GA-2100LXB-1A and GA-2100LXB-1A9 come in at $145. The collection reflects a broader industry trend toward versatile, monochromatic tool watches that can serve in both casual and more polished environments.
