HP has been steadily refreshing its notebook portfolio this year. Alongside consumer-oriented devices such as the recently launched OmniBook X Flip 14 with AMD Zen 5 architecture, the company is broadening its professional workstation range. The latest addition is a new 16-inch mobile workstation built on Intel’s forthcoming Panther Lake platform.

A redesigned keyboard and offset trackpad

The ZBook 8 G2i 16 succeeds the ZBook 8 G1i 16 in the global lineup. While the smaller ZBook 8 G2i 14 dispenses with a numeric keypad, the 16-inch model integrates one directly into the chassis. This design choice shifts the main keyboard toward the left side of the deck. HP has also aligned the mechanical trackpad with the keyboard rather than centering it within the chassis, which results in a noticeably off-center placement beneath the main typing area.

Component choices and display configuration

Under the hood, the workstation can be equipped with up to 64 GB of DDR5-5600 memory and 2 TB of PCIe Gen 5 storage. Processor options span the entire Panther Lake stack, from the Core Ultra 5 325 up to the Core Ultra X9 388H vPro. For graphics, customers can select Nvidia’s RTX Pro 500 Blackwell discrete GPU or rely on integrated Intel Arc B370 or Arc B390 solutions. Two battery capacities are available across these configurations: 68 Wh and 77 Wh.

HP offers close to a dozen display panels for this model. Although no OLED option is listed, two of the screens are 120 Hz panels with variable refresh rate support. One of these is a 3,840 x 2,400 resolution panel rated at 500 nits peak brightness, while other choices in the lineup reach up to 800 nits.

Regional pricing and availability

Pricing and base configurations vary significantly by market. In the United States, the ZBook 8 G2i 16 starts at $2,938, but opting for the Core Ultra X9 388H vPro processor together with 64 GB of RAM pushes the cost beyond $6,500. A mid-range specification featuring a Core Ultra 7 356H, 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB SSD, and a 1200p display is listed at €2,923 in the Eurozone. In the United Kingdom, the entry-level model begins at £2,452 and includes a Core Ultra X7 368H processor, 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB SSD, and a 2.4K 120 Hz display.
