A prominent tech reviewer recently described the Vivo X Fold 6 as one of the last devices to embrace the tall book-style foldable format. That characterization may be somewhat premature. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is still on the horizon, and there is every indication that a defined audience for the classic elongated chassis will persist. At the same time, Apple’s anticipated entry into the foldable market this September is widely viewed as a reset moment for the sector, one that will bring a wave of direct competition for the iPhone maker.

A Shift Toward a Wider Form Factor

As widely reported, Samsung is moving the Galaxy Z Fold 8 away from the slim, tall silhouette toward a more compact 16:9 external ratio, yielding a 4:3 aspect ratio when the device is opened. Whether consumers will welcome the change remains an open question, but for now, it appears that several Chinese manufacturers are aligning their roadmaps with the direction signaled by the first iPhone foldable. Beyond Huawei, which introduced this design approach with the Pura X Max, and Xiaomi with its heavily anticipated Mix Fold 5, Honor seems to be preparing its own take on this layout.

Early Details on Honor’s 2027 Contender

A recent Weibo post from the consistently reliable leaker Digital Chat Station has shed light on a new Honor foldable, unofficially dubbed the “Honor Magic V Wide” for now. The final name is still unknown, but the supplied specifications suggest a launch no earlier than 2027, meaning the device could simply debut as the Honor Magic V7, following the recent global rollout of the Honor Magic V6. It is expected to be built around a 2nm processor, likely the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, and will reportedly feature an approximately 7.6-inch folding display paired with a 5.5-inch cover panel.

The leaker indicates that the camera housing will depart from the familiar octagonal module in favor of a horizontal camera bar. This bar is said to house a 200-megapixel main sensor with a large surface area, accompanied by a periscope telephoto lens. Despite adopting a more compact overall footprint, the device is apparently engineered to carry a larger battery than the Honor Magic V6. With a capacity comfortably exceeding 7,000 mAh, the potential “Honor Magic V Wide” is shaping up to be the 2027 iPhone Ultra rival with the largest battery on the market.

Pricing and Market Positioning

Initial commentary points to a starting price target of 10,000 yuan, which translates to roughly 1,300 euros or US $1,480. That would place it about 1,000 yuan above the Chinese launch price of the Honor Magic V6, signaling a premium positioning aimed squarely at the upper tier of foldable flagships.
