New details have emerged regarding a forthcoming HMD-built device aimed at the children’s market. The handset, reported to be called the HMD XploraOne Neo, is expected to succeed the existing XploraOne kids’ phone.
Display and hardware upgrades
According to a post by a well-known HMD source on X, the XploraOne Neo will feature a 3.5-inch LCD panel, stepping up from the 3.2-inch screen found on its predecessor. The rear camera is listed as a 2-megapixel unit. Internal memory specifications point to 64 MB of RAM and 128 MB of onboard storage, which can be expanded by up to 32 GB through a microSD card slot. While the processor has not yet been disclosed, the original XploraOne ships with a Unisoc T127 single-core chip running at 1 GHz.
Software and battery life
HMD plans to equip the device with a custom environment dubbed RTOS Touch. To support the larger display, the XploraOne Neo is set to pack a 2,000 mAh battery, a modest 50 mAh increase over the previous generation’s capacity.
Connectivity and parental controls
The phone is said to offer LTE, eSIM support, Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, a 3.5 mm audio jack, GPS, Wi-Fi, and Wi-Fi hotspot functionality. Software capabilities are expected to include maps, video calling, and cloud-based applications. As with the current model, parents will be able to monitor usage and location through the Xplora Guardian app.
Design and durability
The handset will reportedly be available only in black, although a leaked image suggests a range of colorful protective cases will be offered separately. Build quality includes an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance.
Availability and market positioning
Release timing and pricing remain unknown at this stage. However, following the precedent set by the first XploraOne, the device is not expected to be sold directly by HMD. Instead, it will likely be distributed through Xplora and its network of partner retailers, reinforcing its niche as a managed first phone for children.
