Acer has introduced a higher-performance configuration of its Swift 16 (SF16-71T), building on the 16-inch laptop line it first announced during CES 2026 and quietly brought to market in April. The expansion adds Intel’s range-topping Core Ultra X9 388H processor to a series that previously peaked with the Core Ultra X7 358H.
A New Processor Tier Arrives
The latest variant is now available through Best Buy in the United States and Currys in the United Kingdom. While more affordable editions featuring the Core Ultra 7 355 have already been selling alongside the Core Ultra X7 358H, this marks the first time the Swift 16 can be configured with the X9-class chip and its integrated Arc B390 graphics. Earlier this year, the laptop had been limited to the X7 358H processor across all initial retail releases.
Performance and Thermal Headroom
According to internal benchmark assessments, the Core Ultra X9 388H delivers roughly a 3 percent overall performance gain over the Core Ultra X7 358H, with the gap widening to approximately 10 percent in certain workloads. Thermal behavior is not expected to be a concern; under maximum load, the X7 358H unit tested previously exhibited low temperatures and minimal fan noise, suggesting the existing cooling design can comfortably accommodate the higher-tier chip.
Familiar Specifications and Display
Beyond the processor swap, the specifications remain consistent with the rest of the lineup. The Core Ultra X9 388H model includes 32 GB of RAM and a 1 TB solid-state drive. It features the same 2.8K OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate, which reached an average brightness of 400 nits in SDR mode during testing. Despite its large 16-inch display size and a 70 Wh battery, the laptop maintains a weight of just 1.5 kg.
Pricing and Regional Differences
Acer has priced the Core Ultra X9 388H edition at $1,899 in the US and £1,899 in the UK. At launch, this puts the US model at a $100 premium over the Core Ultra X7 358H version. The UK gap is considerably steeper, with the X9 configuration costing £400 more than its X7 counterpart at the time of publication.
