Reto has expanded its lineup of affordable cameras with the launch of the Kodak EC35, a reusable 35mm point-and-shoot designed to strip away the complexity of traditional film photography. Priced at $35, the model mimics the straightforward handling of a single-use camera while offering a more durable and wallet-friendly alternative for a new generation of film enthusiasts.
A familiar film experience, minus the waste
The pocketable camera is built around a fixed setup that requires no technical knowledge to operate. It uses a 25mm lens with an f/10 aperture and a fixed shutter speed of 1/100 second, eliminating any need to manage exposure settings. A sliding front cover protects the lens and mechanically locks the shutter, allowing the EC35 to be safely stowed in a bag or pocket without the risk of accidental shots that waste film.
Photographers shooting in dimmer conditions can rely on a built-in flash powered by a single AA battery. The camera comes in seven color variations: Midnight Black, Vanilla White, Butter Yellow, Lavender, Powder Blue, Blush Pink, and Avocado. Alongside the analog EC35, the company has also introduced the Kodak Charmera, a separate $35 model that swaps film for a compact digital format. Barely larger than a key fob at 58 x 24.5 x 20 mm, the Charmera houses a 1.6-megapixel CMOS sensor and a 35mm f/2.4 lens. It captures 1440 x 1080 JPEG images and stores them on an external microSD card. Power is supplied by a 200mAh rechargeable battery with USB-C charging, making the device a pocketable novelty for quick, low-resolution snapshots.
The simultaneous arrival of these two cameras spotlights a growing appetite for simplified imaging tools. Where the EC35 leans into the analog revival with no-frills mechanics and film stocks like Ultramax 400, the Charmera offers a purely digital take on the same minimalist philosophy, both arriving at a price point that significantly undercuts most entry-level film SLRs and digital compacts alike.
