In the last few years, Anbernic has shifted its focus away from creating handheld gaming devices that run on Windows. To give some context, the Win600 was launched right before the market for Windows gaming handhelds really started to grow, thanks to the Asus ROG Ally, which is currently priced at $499 on Amazon. Other companies like Ayaneo, GPD, and One-Netbook have also introduced various models during this time frame.
A New Direction
Anbernic has carved out a space for itself by offering budget-friendly devices that run on Android and Linux, like the RG406H, which is set to launch tomorrow. However, a recent update from the YouTube channel NITTRX indicates that Anbernic hasn't completely abandoned the Windows handheld segment yet.
The Return of Win701
It appears that the Win701 might still be on its way to market, after being absent for nearly eighteen months. It’s not surprising that this new device comes with an upgraded chipset and a slight redesign, making it resemble the ROG Ally and other 7-inch gaming handhelds more closely.
Specifications and Performance
In addition, Anbernic seems to have replaced the Ryzen 7 7840U with the Ryzen 7 8840U, which is now being succeeded by the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. Nevertheless, the combination of the Ryzen 7 8840U and the Radeon 780M will still be strong enough to handle nearly any game on a 7-inch 1080p screen. It’s still uncertain if Anbernic will offer the Win701 worldwide at a price close to CNY 4,999 (approximately $690) as shown below.
