Amazon has brought back the Echo Spot, a well-known addition to its Alexa device range. This compact smart display is specifically designed for use on nightstands or desks, acting mainly as a customizable smart alarm clock.
The Echo Spot features a 2.83-inch touchscreen that covers the top half of the device. Unlike the original version’s circular display with wide bezels, the new screen boasts a sleek semi-circular design.
Customizable Display
The display conveniently shows the time and date. Users can personalize their experience by choosing from various clock faces. Amazon has also added special visuals for key functions like alarms, music playback, and weather updates. These visuals include illustrations such as a shining sun, storm clouds, or a snowflake, depending on the weather. The user interface can be further customized with six color options: orange, violet, magenta, lime, teal, and blue.
Enhanced Audio and Privacy Features
Below the display is a 1.73-inch front-firing speaker concealed behind a mesh grille, the same as the one found in the 5th Gen Echo Dot and Echo Dot with Clock. Built-in microphones enable users to interact with Alexa via voice commands. There’s also a microphone mute button conveniently situated between the volume up and down buttons on top of the device.
For those concerned about privacy, the Echo Spot does not include a camera, unlike the Echo Show 5 or Show 8. Voice recordings can be erased using the Alexa app on Android or iOS devices. The Echo Spot also has a motion sensor, allowing users to dismiss alarms by tapping the top of the device.
Focused Functionality
The Echo Spot is designed to focus on specific tasks. It excels as a smart alarm clock with a customizable interface rather than trying to cater to all needs.
For those interested in purchasing it, the Amazon Echo Spot is available for $79.99. However, Prime members can avail a limited-time discount of $44.99 until July 17th, 2024, in celebration of Amazon’s Prime Day.
