Recently, Denon has introduced a new AV receiver called the AVR-S980H. According to their official statements, you can order it directly from their website starting from yesterday, though it is currently marked as “not available” at the moment. This model is the successor of the AVR-S970H, which is available at around 510 euros from Amazon, but the new AVR-S980H isn’t yet found in other shops. The suggested retail price for this device is set at 899 euros.
Setup and Power Details
The company assures users that setting up the AVR-S980H is straightforward, with just a few simple steps, aiming to make a home cinema experience without much trouble. It supports 7.2 channels, useful for immersive sound experiences like Dolby Atmos, where you could configure it as a 5.2.2 setup with two subwoofers and two ceiling speakers. The amplifier outputs 90 watts per channel, which should be enough power to fill most living rooms with excellent sound quality.
Audio Calibration and Compatibility
The AV receiver is equipped with Audyssey MultEQ, an automatic room calibration system that fine-tunes speaker levels and distances based on your room’s unique acoustics. Besides Dolby Atmos, this model handles 4K and 8K video signals, supports gaming through 1440p pass-through, and is compatible with AMD FreeSync technology. It also features support for advanced audio and video formats including DTS:X, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+. For streaming, it comes with Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and HEOS Multiroom Audio, providing flexible options for music and media playback.
Future Features and Wireless Options
Moreover, Denon has announced a future firmware update that will enable the AVR-S980H to integrate with their new Denon Home multiroom speakers, specifically the models 200, 400, and 600, as wireless surround speakers. This feature will be very convenient for those who want to eliminate speaker cables, especially for rear sound channels. Still, the precise timing for when this update will become available hasn’t been disclosed yet.
