Rumors are swirling that Xiaomi is in the process of creating new AI glasses. According to a report from 36kr.com, which cites a Chinese source called Intelligent Emergence, the company is collaborating with Goertek, a firm that's well-regarded for its sound technology.
Benchmarking the Competition
In the report, an unnamed insider, described as someone who is "familiar with the matter," claims that Xiaomi is looking at the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses as a standard for its own product. To give you some context, the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses feature a 12MP camera, open-ear speakers, and five microphones. They allow users to take photos and videos, ask questions, set reminders, and even scan QR codes. Currently, these smart glasses are priced at $329 on Amazon.
Upcoming Launch Expectations
The details from 36kr.com suggest that the Xiaomi AI glasses might be released in the second quarter of 2025, possibly during the Mi Fan Festival happening in April. Additionally, it mentions that Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, has indicated that the company aims to manufacture at least 300,000 units of these AI glasses. This figure likely represents the initial shipment, and the first release will probably be confined to China. Xiaomi has not yet confirmed that it is developing AI glasses, and it remains uncertain if or when these could be available in other regions.
