Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0: Features, Release Date, and Expectations

Xiaomi HyperOS 2.0: Features, Release Date, and Expectations

Xiaomi is gearing up for the upcoming release of Android 15 by developing a new version of its custom skin, HyperOS 2.0. This update, which is expected to be based on Android 15, promises a host of improvements, UI changes, and new features.

What's New in HyperOS 2.0?

HyperOS, introduced last year, focused on minimalistic design and a connected ecosystem for Xiaomi devices. The new version is expected to enhance these aspects further. One of the rumored features for HyperOS 2.0 is the ability to scan for hidden cameras using WLAN signals, a feature not currently offered by any smartphone brand. If implemented, this would significantly enhance user privacy.

Additionally, Xiaomi is expected to increase the virtual RAM (Memory Extension) capacity to 16GB, with a default setting of 6GB. This would allow for better multitasking by providing more space for active apps. However, not all Xiaomi devices will support the full 16GB due to hardware and storage limitations, likely reserving this feature for high-end and select mid-range phones.

Redesigned Interface and New Features

Leaked screenshots suggest that HyperOS 2.0 will feature a redesigned Settings homepage, offering a card-like experience instead of the traditional segmented layout. This new design aims to improve aesthetics and ensure smoother navigation.

Another visual enhancement is the ripple effect when pressing volume keys, a feature inspired by the iOS 18 beta. This small but functional addition aims to improve user experience.

A minor yet practical feature could be the option to disable the lock screen editor, which activates when you tap and hold an empty spot on the lock screen. This would allow users to avoid accidental activations, offering a more convenient user experience.

While these are some leaked features, Xiaomi is likely to unveil more at the HyperOS 2.0 release. Alongside these exclusive features, users can expect new functionalities and improvements from Android 15, such as satellite messaging, theft detection lock, app archiving, and app pairs.

HyperOS 2.0: When Is It Coming?

Xiaomi has not officially announced a release date for HyperOS 2.0. However, leaks suggest it will be launched around October, the same month HyperOS 1.0 was released last year.

For those eager to experience Android 15, the beta program is already available for several devices, including Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 13T Pro, and Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4. Participating in the beta program allows users to test new features before the public release.

Android 15 is currently in its final development phase, focusing on stability and bug fixes. The stable version is expected to be released in October, coinciding with the anticipated release of HyperOS 2.0.
