From now until December 24th, operators can talk to Santa on the 3.916MHz Santa Net. This project, run by the 3916 Nets, marks the 16th year of this exciting program. The Santa Net operates by relaying Santa's voice through strategically positioned operators who connect with "Santa at the North Pole." To join in, operators can visit the Santa Nets' website at 6:30 PM CT, with the broadcast starting at 7 PM CT. The site even features a live stream of the broadcast for those without a radio.
A Growing Holiday Tradition
For many, this program has created a memorable holiday experience, and the number of participants has significantly increased since its inception. Pete Thomson, a member of the 3916 Net, mentioned, "In our first year, we connected ten kids to Santa on Ham Radio, and it's been growing every year. This year, we expect over 1,000 children to join." Besides spreading holiday joy, the Santa Net initiative also helps introduce the thrill of amateur radio to younger generations.
The Friendliest Nets in Ham Radio
The 3916 Nets, often referred to as "the friendliest nets in all of ham radio," is a collaborative effort between the Rag Chew Crew, The Tailgaters Net, and The Freewheelers, all of which gather on the 3.916 MHz band every night. It's also important to remember that third-party rules and regulations apply to these contacts.
