Vivo introduced the X100 Ultra earlier this year as a competitor focused on photography, going against other “Ultra” devices such as the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra. Known affectionately as “Thanos” by users in China due to its remarkable specs, the X100 Ultra initially featured a type 1-inch primary camera, but it seems that Vivo may be pulling back a bit on that front.
Changes in Camera Specifications
According to information from leaker Kartikey Singh, there is a new model in development to succeed the Vivo X100 Ultra, and it looks set to replace the type 1-inch main camera. Instead, it is rumored that a smaller 1/1.3-inch 50 MP sensor will take its place, which is said to offer even better performance.
Reasons Behind the Shift
The reason Vivo would opt for this change isn’t clear, especially since the size of the sensor is a crucial element for camera quality. A likely explanation could be budget constraints, given that both the Dimensity 9400 and Snapdragon 8 Elite are notably more expensive than their earlier versions. However, some reports from China state that the new main camera will have a “physical focal length far more than one inch”.
Additional Features of the X200 Ultra
Beyond the revised main camera, the Vivo X200 Ultra is expected to include a 1/1.4-inch 200 MP telephoto sensor—likely the same one found in the X100 Ultra—paired with an 85 mm equivalent lens. There are also rumors that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra will feature a similar zoom camera. On a brighter note, the ultra-wide angle camera on the X200 Ultra is anticipated to receive an upgrade to a 50 MP 1/1.3-inch sensor.
