Acebeam has introduced the updated TAC AA 2.0 tactical flashlight, featuring some subtle enhancements. This compact flashlight is designed for everyday carrying (EDC) and can run on either a 14500 battery with 3.7 volts or a standard AA battery. However, users must take out the battery from the flashlight to charge it through USB-C.
Minor Modifications to Design
The body of the TAC AA 2.0 has only seen slight adjustments, making it just 0.008 inches longer than its predecessor. A notable improvement is the belt clip, which can now be attached to hats equipped with sun visors—a feature that the previous version lacked.
Increased Choices in EDC Flashlights
Selecting the right EDC flashlight has become a bit trickier due to the Acebeam TAC 2.0’s introduction. Specifically, it comes in two model variants, each in different colors. The black model utilizes a TN LED with technical specs similar to the earlier model that featured a Nichia LED.
In turbo mode, it can throw light up to 920 feet with a brightness of 1,000 lumens for 35 seconds before it dims to 500 lumens, lasting for an additional 49 minutes. The other modes—5, 50, and 260 lumens—provide runtimes of 58 hours, 14 hours, and 2 hours, respectively.
Variants and Performance Differences
Conversely, the red and blue versions are fitted with an STN LED and seem to have a different optic. In these models, the high-output modes are slightly lower, at 240, 450, and 900 lumens, but they remain comparable to the black version.
Nevertheless, the throw distance increases to 1,180 feet while the battery life stays the same. Both types of LEDs offer a cool light with a color temperature of 6,500 Kelvin. Additionally, two rubber diffuser covers can convert the flashlight into a small lantern, providing either white or red light options.
Acebeam is already offering the new flashlight for sale. The price, including the battery, is $39.90, which is the same as the original model. However, it’s worth noting that this new EDC gadget is already available for a reduced price of $29 on Amazon.
