Nintendo Switch Upgrade Kit Adds 1,200 Nits OLED Display

Not long ago, Taki Udon began offering SUPER5 OLED displays for the Switch Lite, currently priced at $179.99 on Amazon. However, the YouTuber has just announced intentions for a new version, which he calls SUPER7 instead of SUPER6.

    Specifications Overview

To provide some background, the SUPER5 OLED reportedly reaches a peak brightness of 600 nits, making it over 76% brighter than the Switch OLED’s maximum brightness of 340 nits. Additionally, the SUPER OLED boasts 150% sRGB color space coverage and a contrast ratio of 600,000:1, while the standard Switch OLED offers 130% sRGB and a 340,000:1 contrast ratio.

    Advances in Display Technology

Udon claims that the SUPER7 significantly outshines the SUPER5, just like the SUPER5 does compared to the display on the Switch OLED. Supposedly, the SUPER7 OLED can achieve a peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits, a fact we have illustrated below. It appears that the SUPER7 will be compatible only with V1 and V2 Switch consoles, leaving out the smaller Switch Lite. Regrettably, Udon hasn’t disclosed any further information yet, except for a hint about a SUPER7 IPS upgrade panel that is also being developed.

    Future Possibilities

Taki Udon’s innovative approach continues to generate excitement among gamers. The advancements in OLED technology promise to enhance the gaming experience significantly. Keep an eye out for more updates as they become available!

Hyrule Switch Lite Special Edition Receives Ultimate Mod Upgrade

In the quest for the ultimate Legend of Zelda gaming adventure, Taki Udon outlines how to upgrade the special edition Hyrule Switch Lite into an extraordinary Switch Lite system. The modification features enhancements like a new screen, an improved battery, and advanced Hall effect joysticks. While the installation is not the easiest task, the outcomes certainly justify the effort.

    Screen Upgrade

For the display upgrade, Taki opts for the newly launched SUPER5 OLED. The standard Switch Lite display typically offers 400 Nits of brightness. On the other hand, the SUPER5 OLED screen achieves 400 Nits at 75% brightness and can reach a maximum of 600 Nits. Similar to most OLED displays, the SUPER5 provides a significant boost in contrast and color range, along with better energy efficiency.

    Battery Enhancement

When it comes to the battery, Taki replaces the original 3,570 mAh battery with a more powerful 5,000 mAh version. Taki points out that this upgrade is essential, given that although the OLED panel is more energy efficient, the SUPER5 OLED still consumes more power at full brightness than the default screen. While the exact battery model is not specified, numerous options are accessible through various third-party sellers.

    Joystick Replacement

Lastly, the standard joysticks are substituted with TMR Hall effect joysticks that utilize tunnel magnetic resistance. These joysticks consume less energy and operate at a lower voltage compared to traditional options. This characteristic ensures that battery life won’t negatively impact performance, and they effectively address the common stick drift issues faced by users.

If you plan to carry out the mods on your own, you should be prepared to fully disassemble the Switch. Taki does not provide a deep dive into the installation steps but does showcase the entire process. Certainly, the most fragile part of the upgrade is the screen replacement. Taki employs a heat gun to soften the adhesive securing the screen, removes it along with any leftover glue, and fits the new display in during the reassembly phase.
