    OnePlus has finally revealed its latest tablet earlier this week. The OnePlus Pad 2 succeeds the original OnePlus Pad directly. But does it truly serve as a worthy successor? How do the two stack up in terms of specifications, pricing, and other attributes? Let’s delve into the details.

    OnePlus Pad 2 with a Taller & Brighter Display

    The newly launched OnePlus Pad 2 features a 12.1-inch IPS LCD screen, which is taller and offers a resolution of 3,000 x 2,120 pixels, a 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and a peak brightness of up to 900 nits. This is an upgrade from the original OnePlus Pad, which had an 11.61-inch IPS LCD display with the same Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and 144Hz refresh rate, but with a maximum brightness of 500 nits.

    Flagship Chip Upgrade

    The original OnePlus Pad was equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC, a high-end chip known for its capable performance. However, the OnePlus Pad 2 takes it a step further with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, the same chipset found in ultra-premium phones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

    6 Speakers Over 4

    While there are many similarities between the two tablet generations, OnePlus has made some changes in the audio department. The OnePlus Pad 2 now features six speakers supporting Dolby Atmos for a more immersive audio experience, compared to the quad-speaker setup of the original OnePlus Pad, which also supported Dolby Atmos.

    What’s Remained the Same?

    Despite a few changes, OnePlus has retained several aspects of the Pad 2. The metal unibody design, using aluminum for the rear and frame, remains the same, offering a premium feel. The battery capacity is also unchanged, with a 9510mAh cell that supports 67W wired fast charging. The camera system is identical as well, with an 8-megapixel front camera and a 13-megapixel rear camera.

    Pricing & Verdict

    When it launched in 2023, the original OnePlus Pad had a starting price of ₹37,999 in India, $479 in the US, and €499 in Europe. With the upgrades, the OnePlus Pad 2 has seen a slight price increase, starting at ₹42,999 in India and $550/€550/£500 in the US, EU, and UK markets. Unlike the unique Halo Green color of the original Pad, the Pad 2 is available only in Nimbus Gray.

    So, if you’re currently in the market for a new tablet, the original OnePlus Pad remains the more budget-friendly option. However, if you can stretch your budget a bit, the OnePlus Pad 2 offers better specs and features, making it a more compelling choice.
