Sony Xperia 1 VII and 10 VII Face Uncertain Future in 2025

Sony’s yearly Xperia series has been getting smaller in recent times. Back in 2021, there were seven different phones available, including the ACE II (exclusive to Japan), the PRO and PRO-I, and the Xperia 1 III, 5 III, and 10 III, along with a Lite version of the 10 III. In 2022, the number of options dropped to four (with three for international consumers since the ACE III was only for Japan), and in 2023, only three Xperia phones were launched. By 2024, the lineup was reduced to just the two models mentioned earlier. There’s a chance that in 2025, only one model may hit the market.

    Future of Xperia

A user from the Esato forum, known as spektykles, who has previously been a somewhat trustworthy source for Xperia news, recently shared some insights. He stated that not much is changing for future Xperia phones. Sony scrapped some unannounced models at the end of 2024 due to poor sales potential. It seems that 2025 could be even more disappointing.

    Possible Cancellations

While it’s unclear which models got the axe, it’s likely that the Sony Xperia 5 VI was among them. Other candidates for cancellation could be the much-speculated global Xperia ACE IV, a new version of the PRO line, or even a compact foldable device dubbed the “Xperia Fold.” If 2025 is shaping up to be worse than 2024, it might hint that yet another model, like the Sony Xperia 10 VII, has been removed from the lineup.

Unfortunately, the reduction in models doesn’t necessarily guarantee that the Sony Xperia 1 VII will come packed with features and innovations. An Insider Sony account on X shared an unofficial wish list for the Xperia 1 Mark 7, but this was largely dismissed by a supposed insider on Weibo. It appears that an official launch in the US is unlikely (just as it was for the Xperia 1 VI), and the only hardware change hinted at seems to relate to the display.

Sony Delays Xperia 5 VI Indefinitely Amid Strategy Review

Earlier this year, Sony introduced its flagship smartphone, the Sony Xperia 1 VI, along with the Xperia 10 VI, a mid-range option, to the global market. Traditionally, fans also look forward to a premium mid-range device, anticipated to be called the Xperia 5 VI. However, according to reports from Japanese media, Sony has decided to postpone the launch of the Xperia 5 VI indefinitely. This decision aligns with a trend of consumers gravitating towards larger-screen devices, similar to the Xperia 1 VI.

    Strategic Shift in Product Lineup

Despite earlier indications from case manufacturers about the Xperia 5 VI’s development, Sony has chosen to extend the market presence of the currently available Xperia 5 V. This strategic choice implies that the company is reassessing its product lineup to better match evolving market demands.

    Future Prospects

It’s currently unclear if Sony will introduce a new Xperia 5 model or if the company intends to simplify its smartphone offerings. The postponement of the Xperia 5 VI highlights potential challenges Sony faces in the highly competitive mid-range smartphone market.

Recently, it was reported that Sony is developing three new smartphones, identified by the model numbers PM-1502-BV, PM-1503-BV, and PM-1504-BV, as found in an IMEI database. Unfortunately, no technical specifications for these devices have been disclosed yet.

Sony Xperia 5 VI Leaked: New Render Images Revealed

Following the recent successful debut of the Xperia 1 VI, Sony is preparing to introduce the Xperia 5 VI! Rendered images of the Xperia 5 VI were recently found on a German case retailer’s website.

Rumors had circulated online suggesting that Sony might be discontinuing the Xperia 5 series, but that’s evidently not true. Sony is ready to launch the Xperia 5 VI soon. The render images suggest that the design of the new Xperia 5 VI closely resembles that of its predecessor, the Xperia 5 V.

    Design and Features

The camera setup appears to be of a similar size and arrangement as seen on the Xperia 5 V. The images also reveal a side-mounted fingerprint sensor with volume buttons situated above it. Unfortunately, the shutter button, which is highly appreciated by photography enthusiasts, is missing on the Xperia 5 VI. Additionally, while the Xperia 1 VI showcases a boxier design, the Xperia 5 VI comes with rounded corners.

    Sony Xperia 5 VI Specifications

The Xperia 5 VI also includes a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top of the phone. This is what is currently known about the forthcoming Sony Xperia 5 VI.
