  • Honor Magic V3 Series: What to Expect from Upcoming Foldable Phones

Honor Magic V3 Series: What to Expect from Upcoming Foldable Phones

Honor is gearing up for its July 12 launch event, where it will introduce several new products. Among these, the Magic V3 and Magic Vs3 foldable phones are highly anticipated. These models are expected to bring various improvements over their predecessors. Here’s a rundown of what to expect from Honor’s upcoming foldable devices.

    Honor Magic V3

Recent teasers have revealed the slim profile of the Magic V3. The Chinese company claims that this premium model boasts an ultra-thin and versatile folding design. Honor’s Magic V2 had already set a high bar for thin design with the Magic V3, but the company aims to push the envelope further. The V3 is expected to be even slimmer and lighter, with leaked images showcasing its body.

Although the exact dimensions haven’t been disclosed, tipsters support Honor’s claims. Both the Magic V and Magic Vs3 will feature a similar book-style folding screen. Teaser posters have also confirmed the color options for the Magic V3: Tundra Green, Qilian Snow, and Velvet Black. Additionally, there’s a brown variant with a faux leather back panel and a golden metallic border around its rear camera module.

    Flagship Chip

Honor is maintaining the flagship status of the Magic V series by incorporating top-end hardware. To recap, the Magic V2 came with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Its successor, the Magic V3, will feature the more advanced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, ensuring not just premium looks but also high-end performance.

On the other hand, the Magic Vs3 will likely continue to be a more affordable option. In 2023, the Vs2 model was equipped with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. Honor is expected to stick with this strategy for this year’s foldable lineup, potentially using the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor for the Vs3. This chip is popular in flagship killer or budget flagship phones, offering excellent performance despite being a notch below the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Camera, Satellite Connectivity, Battery, & More

Honor has confirmed that the Magic V3 will support AI eye protection and AI anti-fraud features, although it’s unclear if the Vs3 will have these capabilities. The Magic V3 series is expected to come with a large 5,000mAh battery. The flagship V3 model was spotted on the 3C certification site, indicating support for 66W wired fast charging. This listing also confirmed the inclusion of satellite connectivity.

For photography, the Magic V3 will feature a large camera island on the rear, housing a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a telephoto shooter with up to 3.5x optical zoom, and possibly an ultra-wide-angle lens. Honor will officially announce the Magic V3 and Magic Vs3 in China on July 12, 2024. Stay tuned for our coverage of the launch event next week.

He noted that the device features the same advanced light and shadow image processing algorithm as the Realme GT5 Pro, which debuted in December of last year. Below are the image samples for your reference.

    Realme GT6 Camera Performance

Xu Qi shared four images on his official Weibo account. Due to significant compression, the images have a resolution of 690 x 591, making it difficult to evaluate details and noise levels. Nonetheless, the pictures display impressive dynamic range and pleasing colors. One image, capturing a flying bird, indicates that the camera can handle fast-moving subjects well, at least in well-lit conditions.

The phone is equipped with a 50MP main sensor from Sony, possibly the Sony IMX890, according to earlier rumors. This sensor is 1/1.56″ in size with a pixel size of 1.0µm. The main camera also includes OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). It is complemented by an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 16MP selfie camera on the front.

Honor Magic V3 Camera Samples: See Real-Life Images Now

Honor’s next foldable phone, the Magic V3, is slated for a July 12th release. Real-life photos and camera samples have emerged on Weibo, thanks to tipster WhyLab.

The device is featured in two color options: Orange with a faux leather back and a golden camera frame, and White with a glass panel and a silver-finished camera frame. It will also be available in Black and Green.

The tipster highlighted the phone’s slim profile, both folded and unfolded. When unfolded, the Magic V3 is expected to be the world’s thinnest foldable phone, taking over from the Magic V2, which holds the current record at 9.9mm. This is achieved partly due to a new battery with 10% silicon content, making the Magic V3 4.4% thinner than its predecessor.

Another image demonstrated the minimal crease of the Magic V3. According to the tipster, the crease is barely noticeable during use.

    Camera and Performance

WhyLab also posted camera samples of the Honor Magic V3, some of which are included below for a closer look:

Although the full camera specifications haven’t been revealed, it is rumored that the device will include a periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom.

    Advanced Features

Internally, the phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, a battery with approximately 5,000mAh capacity, and support for 66W fast charging.

Honor has also developed an Honor E1 chip to enhance power management in the Magic V3, reportedly maximizing energy efficiency to extend battery life.

The foldable phone is expected to include two-way satellite connectivity support. More details are anticipated to be disclosed as we approach the official launch date on July 12.

  • Honor Magic V3 Debuts with Industry’s First 10% Silicon Battery

Honor Magic V3 Debuts with Industry’s First 10% Silicon Battery

The Honor Magic V3 is set to debut on July 12. Prior to the launch event, the company conducted a technology conference in its home country, showcasing its latest advancements and innovations in the slim and lightweight foldable phone category.

Industry’s First 10% Silicon Content Battery

During the conference, Honor announced the creation of the industry’s first battery with 10% silicon content. This advanced battery will power the soon-to-be-released Honor Magic V3. The new silicon anode battery is 4.4% thinner than its predecessor and contains over 10% silicon, marking a first in the industry. The energy density is 5.74% higher than the previous generation, which means the battery can store more energy in a given space or mass. Increased energy density allows the battery to take up less internal volume without sacrificing capacity, making the phone thinner.

    Enhanced Performance

Honor also introduced the Honor E1 chip, designed to optimize power management and maximize energy efficiency to extend battery life. Leaks and rumors suggest that the Honor Magic V3 will feature a plain leather body and a significantly improved camera module. The device is expected to be both more capable and thinner than the Honor Magic V2, launched last July.

For reference, the Magic V2 is 9.9mm thick when closed and 4.7mm when opened. It includes a 50MP main camera, 20MP 2.5x telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultrawide camera on the back, powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The second-generation silicon anode battery in the V2 has a capacity of 5000mAh and supports 66W fast charging.

The upcoming Honor Magic V3 is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, while still maintaining the same 5000mAh battery capacity.
