    HMD Global has unveiled its new smartphone in India, the HMD Fusion, which comes with modular “Smart Outfits” aimed at boosting customization and functionality. These attachable cases connect through a six-pin interface, enabling users to modify their devices based on different requirements.

    Unique Modular Design with Smart Outfits

    The HMD Fusion’s main highlight is its ability to work with Smart Outfits—modular attachments that offer more than just looks. There are three distinct styles available:

    • Casual Outfit: A simple design perfect for daily use.
    • Flashy Outfit: Features a foldable RGB LED flash ring that’s great for photography, with adjustable lighting settings.
    • Gaming Outfit: Comes with physical buttons and joysticks to enhance the gaming experience.

    These outfits work seamlessly with the phone’s hardware and software, delivering personalized functionality.

    The HMD Fusion is designed for dependable performance and comes with several notable features:

    • Cameras: It features a 108MP main camera and a 50MP front-facing camera, equipped with Night Mode 3.0 and gesture controls.
    • Performance: It is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, with 8GB of RAM and expandable storage up to 256GB.
    • Display: The phone has a 6.56-inch HD+ HID display with a 90Hz refresh rate for smoother visuals.
    • Battery: It boasts a 5000mAh battery that supports more than 800 charging cycles, along with a 33W fast charger.

    Focus on Repairability and Sustainability

    The device endorses HMD’s Right to Repair – Gen2, allowing users to easily replace parts like the battery, screen, or charging port. This initiative encourages a longer lifespan for devices and helps minimize e-waste.

    Enhanced Gaming Experience

    HMD has teamed up with Digital Turbine and Aptoide to boost mobile gaming. The built-in Aptoide game store and SingleTap™ technology make it simple to access games. The physical controls from the Gaming Outfit enhance the overall gaming experience.

    Pricing and Launch Details

    The HMD Fusion is available for INR 17,999, but there’s a special introductory price of INR 15,999. Customers will also receive complimentary Smart Outfits valued at INR 5,999. The smartphone will be on sale on Amazon and HMD’s official site starting November 29 at 12:01 PM. In Europe, the device will be priced at 249 Euros.

    HMD Fusion Launches Unique Modular Smart Cases

    HMD recently introduced a new smartphone at the IFA 2024 event. The company’s latest offering, the HMD Fusion, stands out with its innovative modular design. Alongside this model, HMD also launched new Smart Outfits—special cases that blend style and functionality. Let’s dive into the details.

    HMD Fusion: Distinctive Features

    The HMD Fusion bears a resemblance to the HMD Crest. Like the Skyline and Crest, the Fusion prioritizes repairability, making it easy to replace components like the display, back cover, charging port, and battery with iFixit. However, what truly differentiates the Fusion is its modular design. The back of the phone includes a six-pin connector that enables it to work with unique cases, referred to as ‘Smart Outfits’ by HMD.

    This concept may remind some of the Moto Mods, but HMD adds a unique twist. Each Outfit modifies not only the phone’s function but also its software. Attaching a new case provides users with new hardware capabilities and software features. According to HMD, some cases can unlock new interfaces and boost performance. For instance, the Flashy Outfit introduces a ring light around both front and rear cameras and adds a new camera effect in the app. The Rugged Outfit enhances durability with an IP8 rating for dust and water resistance and supports wireless charging with an ICE button (in-case-of-emergency). There’s also a Casual Outfit, a fashionable case available in various colors with a minimalistic design.

    Specifications

    The HMD Fusion is equipped with a 6.56-inch HD+ LCD display featuring a 90Hz refresh rate and 600 nits peak brightness. Underneath, it is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC, coupled with up to 12GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 1TB via a microSD card slot. This device operates on Android 14 and is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with 56-inch HD+ LCD display featuring33W wired fast charging support.

    In terms of photography, the rear hosts a 108-megapixel dual camera setup, while the front is equipped with a 50-megapixel selfie camera. Additional features include an IP54 rating, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, Dual SIM capability, Bluetooth 5.1, and a USB Type-C port.

    Pricing

    The HMD Fusion will be available in a single black color option and is priced at 249 Euros. The release date is yet to be announced. The Flashy, Rugged, Wireless, and Gaming Outfits will be sold separately later this year, with prices ranging from 39 Euros to 99 Euros.
