Huawei and Samsung contemplate rollable, tri-foldable smartphones as Oppo and Vivo possibly withdraw from foldable market.

According to a report from a South Korean publication, Oppo and Vivo may be withdrawing from the foldable phone market. While there is no official statement from either brand, the report suggests that their decision may be due to a decline in market share in this segment last year.

Oppo and Vivo’s Potential Exit from the Foldable Market

Oppo entered the foldable phone market in 2021, while Vivo launched its foldable smartphone in 2022. Both brands have been steadily releasing new foldable phones, although Vivo’s devices are limited to the Chinese market. However, if the report is accurate, it is possible that even OnePlus may not release a new foldable phone. On the other hand, Huawei is reportedly working on a tri-foldable phone, while Samsung is developing a rollable display phone.

Uncertain Future for Oppo and Vivo

As of now, there is no official statement from Oppo and Vivo regarding their potential exit from the foldable phone market. It is advisable to await further reports to understand how the situation unfolds. The report suggests that their decision may be influenced by a significant decline in market share in this segment last year.

    Huawei’s Tri-Foldable Device

Huawei, one of the early pioneers in the foldable phone market, is reportedly developing a Z-shaped tri-foldable device targeting the tablet PC market. This device may offer a screen space of up to 10 inches when unfolded, and Huawei aims to sell over 130 million units annually.

    Competition from Apple and Samsung

Apple’s iPad currently dominates the tablet PC market with a 40 percent market share, while Samsung’s Galaxy Tab comes in second with a 19 percent market share. In response to Huawei’s developments, both Apple and Samsung are reportedly advancing their foldable products.

    Samsung’s Rollable and Tri-Foldable Phones

Samsung leads the foldable phone segment with a 66 percent market share in 2023. The company is said to be working on a rollable display phone and possibly a tri-foldable phone similar to Huawei’s. Meanwhile, Apple is rumored to be developing its first horizontally foldable phone, with expected production slated for 2026.

Samsung’s upcoming foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, are set to be unveiled later this summer. As the release date approaches, leaks from the supply chain are starting to provide details about the devices.

Safety Korea certifies new Samsung battery, possibly designed for Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The battery photographs from Safety Korea show a design that includes a pull tab. This pull tab is expected to enhance the device’s repairability by making battery replacements easier.

    Dual-Battery System

While the capacity of the battery remains unknown, it is likely that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will continue with the dual-battery system seen in earlier Fold models. It is possible that the primary battery unit will be paired with a second, smaller battery that also includes the pull-tab feature for easier repairs.

Previous leaks suggested that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 may include larger batteries. It is plausible that Samsung is adopting a similar strategy for the Galaxy Z Fold 6, although this has not been confirmed.

    Speculations and Rumors

There are additional rumors surrounding the Galaxy Z Fold 6. One speculation is that it could feature a wider cover screen. There are also indications that Samsung may be working on a separate foldable device altogether, potentially with a rollable or dual-folding display design, which could debut this year.

As of now, there is no solid information on when Samsung will release the next Galaxy Z-series foldable phones. However, based on previous patterns, they are likely to launch in Q3, 2024, at the second Galaxy Unpacked event of the year. We will keep you updated as more information comes in.

According to the listing, the phone is powered by a MediaTek chipset with six cores running at 2.0GHz and the remaining two cores running at 2.20GHz. • Storage Upgrade Offer Now Available for Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Series

Storage Upgrade Offer Now Available for Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Series

Last week, Samsung started offering storage upgrade promotions for the Galaxy Tab A9 Plus in the US. Up until then, this offer was limited to the Galaxy S series smartphones.

Samsung Extends Storage Upgrade Offer to Galaxy Tab S9 Series

Just a few days later, the same offer is now available for the high-end Galaxy Tab S9 family as well. Buyers can avail of benefits on all three models.

    Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra

Samsung has extended the storage upgrade offer to the WiFi variants of the Galaxy Tab S9 series in the US. Thus, consumers can now get the higher storage model for the price of the base model from Samsung.com

This means the 12GB + 256B version of the Galaxy Tab S9 now costs the same as the 8GB + 128GB variant ($799.99) instead of $919.99. The base variant cannot be ordered, at least for the time being.

It is clever of Samsung to upsell the higher variant by discounting it, rather than bringing down the starting price by offering a discount on the base model.

Similarly, the 12GB + 512GB memory configurations of Galaxy Tab S9 Plus and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra are available for $999.99 and $1199.99, respectively. They would normally cost $1199.99 and $1319.99, respectively.

The only variant that’s not on discount is the top-end 16GB + 1TB version of Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra. This one is still listed at its launch price of $1619.99.

On top of the storage upgrade offer, buyers can avail trade-in bonus to further lower the price of these tablets.

That being said, we are not sure how long this offer will be valid. Also, we have no info on if and when this promotion will be made available in other regions.
