  • Samsung Galaxy Phones Could Soon Feature Satellite Connectivity

Samsung Galaxy Phones Could Soon Feature Satellite Connectivity

Samsung is on the verge of integrating satellite communication into its Galaxy smartphone series. Android Authority has uncovered code snippets in mobile applications that strongly indicate this forthcoming feature.

Specifically, references to “satellite mode” and “emergency texts via satellite” were identified in Samsung’s Emergency SOS, Messages, and Phone applications. This suggests that Samsung is gearing up to join the satellite connectivity trend initiated by Apple. However, the exact release date and the phone models that will support this feature remain unknown.

    Code in Emergency SOS App

    <string name="satelliteText">Emergency texts via satellite</string>
<string name="satelliteHeading">If you call emergency services when you’re out of range or not connected to a mobile network, we’ll connect you via satellite so you can send an emergency text</string>

    Code in Samsung Messages App

    <string name="satellite_network_mode_title">Satellite mode not supported</string>
<string name="samsung_message_do_not_provide_satellite_network_mode">Samsung Messages doesn't support satellite messaging. To send and receive texts via satellite, you need to make Google Messages your default messaging app.</string>

    Code in Phone App

<string name="sat_mode_inline_cue_text">You're in satellite mode. You can send text messages, including to 911. Emergency calls may still connect if a mobile network is available near you.</string>
    <string name="sat_mode_send_message">Send message</string>
<string name="sat_mode_waring_dialog_message">You can send and receive text messages in Satellite mode. Emergency calls may still connect if a mobile network is available near you.</string>

According to Android Authority, this feature might be launched with the Android 15 operating system, although its integration into Samsung’s One UI 7 interface might take some additional time.

The addition of satellite communication in Samsung phones has been anticipated since Apple introduced it with the iPhone 14. Samsung executive Park Yong-in had promised two-way satellite connectivity for Galaxy phones by 2024, but it is still not present in the latest Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 models. There is a possibility that a software update could activate satellite connectivity on these devices.

Unlike Apple, which limits the feature to emergency messaging, Samsung’s satellite connectivity is rumored to extend beyond emergencies, allowing users to send messages through any application.

Interestingly, Google Pixel phones have also demonstrated signs of satellite connectivity, although this feature is currently active for Pixel devices. This collective evidence indicates that satellite messaging for Android phones, including Galaxy models, could become available in the near future.

  • Samsung Patents Foldable Phone Similar to LG Wing

Samsung Patents Foldable Phone Similar to LG Wing

Samsung has been a frontrunner in the foldable phone industry with its Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series. However, the company is not settling for the status quo. A newly uncovered patent application, published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), indicates Samsung might be experimenting with an innovative foldable design that merges elements from existing phones.

The patent illustrations showcase a device that initially looks ordinary. Yet, it features a swiveling mechanism allowing the main screen to rotate 180 degrees, unveiling a secondary display beneath it. This rotating feature is reminiscent of the LG Wing, which also has a secondary screen for multitasking.

    Unique Folding Mechanism

The intriguing aspect is the patent also outlines a hinge on the main screen, suggesting the phone could fold in half along this line. Combining these features results in a device with standard display mode, a rotating secondary display mode similar to the LG Wing, and a fully unfolded tablet-like mode.

The patent further reveals a camera module positioned in the top right corner, along with a charging port, microphone, and speakers at the bottom.

    Versatile Design

On paper, this design is quite unique, offering the functionality of three foldable devices in one. In its standard form, the phone remains compact. The rotating secondary display enables multitasking, much like the LG Wing. Lastly, the fully unfolded state delivers a large, uninterrupted display experience.

However, tempering the excitement is essential. Samsung often files patents for cutting-edge technologies, and a patent does not guarantee a product will eventually hit the market.

    Practical Considerations

Even though the design appears unique, its practicality must be assessed. The combined hinge and swivel mechanism could be structurally intricate and potentially susceptible to wear and tear.

Moreover, Samsung recently filed another patent for a triple-foldable smartphone. With both these patents coming to light, it’s evident Samsung is actively investigating the future of foldable phone technology.

While these concepts might not reach the market soon, they offer a sneak peek into the possibilities Samsung envisions for the future of mobile displays.

  • Galaxy Watch Ultra, Watch 7, Buds 3 series leak

Galaxy Watch Ultra, Watch 7, Buds 3 series leak

Samsung is preparing for a major launch next month which will include new foldables, smartwatches, a smart ring, earbuds, and possibly more. We have already seen renders of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6, and now it’s time to focus on the upcoming Galaxy Watch series and Galaxy Buds.

Evan Blass, a well-known tech leak source, has unveiled official marketing images of the Galaxy Watch Ultra, Watch 7, Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, and the standard Galaxy Buds 3.

    Galaxy Watch Ultra

The highlight of the leak is the Galaxy Watch Ultra, Samsung’s inaugural Ultra smartwatch. This model features a rugged orange band and a distinctive square case with a circular display on top.

Interestingly, the band connection system bears a striking resemblance to the Apple Watch. While Samsung has traditionally used spring pin bands, which are compatible with a wide range of third-party straps, the new Ultra watch seems to align more closely with the Apple Watch in this aspect.

    Galaxy Watch 7

The leak also reveals the standard Galaxy Watch 7. It maintains the design of its predecessor, the Watch 6, and comes with a green band.

Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Buds 3 Pro

Evan Blass has also shared images of the Galaxy Buds 3 and Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. Both models feature a streamlined, stemmed design similar to the Apple AirPods.

Despite having a more defined edge compared to Apple’s AirPods, the resemblance is evident, particularly with the white Galaxy Buds 3, which will be available without silicone tips.

The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, on the other hand, distinguish themselves with a dark gray finish and a transparent case lid. The Pro version will continue to offer the comfortable silicone tips seen in previous Galaxy Buds models.

With the Unpacked event approaching, excitement is growing for the official presentation of these wearables and earbuds. There are also rumors about the introduction of the first-ever Galaxy Ring at the event. Stay tuned for more updates as additional information becomes available.

    Significant Shadows in the GIF

    Possible Announcements

In addition to the foldable devices, other potential announcements at the event include new Galaxy Watch smartwatches, possibly an Ultra model, and Galaxy Buds wireless earbuds. Earlier this year, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Ring at its January Unpacked event, and more details about this wearable could be revealed in July.

It’s crucial to remember that this information stems from leaks and remains unofficial until Samsung confirms the event date and details.

    Samsung’s Unpacked Events

Typically, Samsung hosts at least two Unpacked events annually. The first event usually showcases new Galaxy S series smartphones. The summer Unpacked event, like the upcoming one on July 10th, traditionally features the unveiling of foldable phones and other wearable gadgets.
