iOS and iPadOS: iOS 18.1.1 and iPadOS 18.1.1

Exploit Details
While Apple hasn’t shared exact information about the vulnerabilities, it has confirmed that they are being used to target flaws in JavaScriptCore and WebKit. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has strongly suggested that all users should quickly apply these updates to shield their devices from possible attacks.
Samsung’s Recent Criticism
In other news, Samsung has criticized Apple this month through a new “Simon Says” advertisement that pokes fun at Apple’s supposed lack of innovation in its recent iPhones. The ad highlights features of the Galaxy lineup, like the flip screen of the Z Flip 6 and its AI capabilities. However, the tone of the advertisement received mixed reviews, with some critics questioning Samsung’s own history of innovation.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip series has revolutionized pocket-sized phones with its innovative foldable design. Each new version brings enhancements to the hinge, display technology, cameras, and overall user experience. The latest model, the Galaxy Z Flip 6, includes several upgrades. Here’s a detailed comparison between the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and its predecessors – Flip 5, Flip 4, and Flip 3 – to highlight the advancements over the years.
Display
All Z Flip models feature a spacious 6.7-inch main display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The Z Flip 6 stands out with a peak brightness of 2600 nits, surpassing the Flip 5’s 1600 nits and the 1200 nits of the Flip 3 and 4. This enhancement makes the Z Flip 6 ideal for outdoor use or bright environments.
Regarding the cover display, the Flip 3 and Flip 4 have a smaller 1.9-inch screen, while the Flip 5 introduces a more practical 3.4-inch option, maintained in the Z Flip 6. This size is perfect for quick notifications, music controls, and some app interactions without unfolding the phone. The refresh rates remain consistent across all models, despite some users hoping for a 120Hz upgrade for the cover display.
Performance and Storage
The Z Flip 6 features the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, offering a significant performance boost over the Snapdragon 888 in the Flip 3 and the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in the Flip 4. The Flip 5 uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, positioning it between the Flip 4 and 6 in terms of performance.
All models come with 8GB of RAM in their base variants, with higher storage options offering additional RAM. The Z Flip 6 raises the bar with a 12GB RAM option for the most demanding users. Storage options remain consistent across models, with 256GB and 512GB choices available.
Cameras
The camera setup in the Z Flip 6 changes significantly. It replaces the dual 12MP sensors of previous models with a new 50MP main sensor, alongside the existing 12MP ultra-wide sensor. This upgrade promises sharper photos with better detail, especially in low-light conditions. The 10MP front camera remains the same across all models.
Software features like Nightography and AI-powered image processing are present in all models, but the Z Flip 5 and 6 may offer further refinements due to their newer processors.
Design and Durability
The foldable design is a staple across the Z Flip series. Samsung has consistently improved the hinge mechanism, with the Z Flip 6 featuring a “dual rail structure” for better shock absorption and a slimmer profile when folded (14.9mm) compared to the Flip 5 (15.1mm). The Flip 3 and Flip 4 have a thickness of 17.1mm when folded.
Material choices include Armor Aluminum for the frame across all models, but the Z Flip 6 boasts improved IP48 dust and water resistance, while the Flip 3, Flip 4, and Flip 5 have an IPX8 rating. The Z Flip 5 and 6 use Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for better scratch resistance, while the Flip 3 and 4 use Victus+.
Battery and Charging
The battery capacity has gradually increased over the generations. The Z Flip 3 has a 3300mAh battery, while the Z Flip 4 and Z Flip 5 increase it to 3700mAh. The Z Flip 6, with the largest battery at 4000mAh, offers potentially longer usage time.
Fast charging capabilities have also improved. The Z Flip 3 offers 15W fast charging, while the Z Flip 4 and Z Flip 5 support 25W. The Z Flip 6 retains the 25W fast charging and 15W Qi wireless charging.
Software
Software-wise, the Flip 3 launched with Android 11 and One UI 3.1. The Flip 4 and Flip 5 come with Android 12/13 and One UI 4.1/5.1, respectively. The Flip 6 leads with the latest Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1. The Flip 6 will also receive seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates.
The Z Flip 4 introduced FlexCam for hands-free video capture or selfies at various angles by partially folding the phone. The Z Flip 5 expanded on this with a larger Flex Window and the ability to switch between widgets with a pinch gesture.
The Z Flip 6 furthers AI features with Note Assist, Circle to Search, Interpreter, Live Translate, and more. It also introduces a vapor chamber cooling system, a first for the Flip series, to manage the increased processing power without overheating.
Pricing and Availability
The base model pricing (with 256GB storage) has remained relatively consistent, starting at around $999. The Z Flip 3 and Z Flip 4 are no longer available directly from Samsung but can be found through retailers or carriers. The Z Flip 5 starts at $999.99, while the Z Flip 6 starts at $1099.99, reflecting its upgraded processor and camera.
Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series has evolved significantly, with each generation building on the strengths of its predecessors. The Flip 6, with its brighter display, upgraded processor, enhanced camera capabilities, improved durability, and larger battery, offers a compelling upgrade. For those considering an upgrade from an older Z Flip model or new to foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is an excellent option. Motorola has introduced its latest high-end flip phone, the Razr 50 Ultra, which is now available in markets including India. But is it worth buying the Razr 50 Ultra now, or should you wait for the impending Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6? Let’s delve into their comparisons.
Razr 50 Ultra vs Galaxy Z Flip 6: Display Differences
Although Samsung has not yet officially announced the Galaxy Z Flip 6, several rumors and reports give us a glimpse of its potential specifications. It’s anticipated to feature a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The cover screen might be a smaller 3.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel, also potentially offering a 120Hz refresh rate.
Motorola seems to have an advantage in terms of display dimensions. The primary screen on the Razr 50 Ultra is a 6.9-inch LTPO pOLED display with a 1-165Hz refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, DCI-P3 color gamut, and a peak brightness of 3000 nits. Its outer panel is a 4-inch pOLED display with FHD+ resolution and the same variable refresh rate. Both screens are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
Given Samsung’s reputation for high-quality displays, the Z Flip 6 is likely to feature a bright panel. However, if screen size is crucial for you, the Razr 50 Ultra may be the better option. We still need to see what Samsung has to offer.
Specifications & Features
When it comes to hardware, both Motorola and Samsung offer top-tier specifications. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, surpassing the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 found in the Razr 50 Ultra, which is typically seen in more affordable flagship devices.
Battery life has been a point of criticism for Samsung’s Flip series, but the Z Flip 6 might come with a 4,000mAh battery, which would put it on par with the Razr 50 Ultra. Motorola, however, offers faster charging options with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging, whereas Samsung’s Z Flip 6 is likely to offer 25W wired and 15W wireless charging.
In terms of cameras, Samsung is rumored to include a 50MP + 12MP rear camera setup and a 10MP front camera. The Razr 50 Ultra features a higher resolution for the telephoto (50MP) and selfie camera (32MP), and matches the main sensor’s 50MP resolution.
Both phones incorporate AI features. Motorola includes a built-in Google Gemini AI assistant accessible from the external display, while Samsung’s Z Flip 6 will likely feature Galaxy AI, offering functionalities such as Live Translate AI for real-time language translation.
Pricing & Verdict
The Razr 50 Ultra is priced at 99,999 INR for the 12GB + 512GB model and is currently available with an early bird discount of 5,000 INR. Last year, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 was launched at 109,999 INR, and the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s price may reflect this or be higher.
While Motorola’s specifications might make it seem like a clear choice, Samsung’s experience in the foldable phone market is a significant factor. The overall user experience, including the UI, plays a crucial role. Therefore, if you are willing to spend around a lakh, it might be worth waiting for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 to have another option to consider.
Just a week before Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event, detailed specifications of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 have been leaked. The leak originates from Evan Blass, a reputable tech leaker, who revealed marketing images of both phones in his Substack newsletter.
The leaked details highlight several significant enhancements, such as a brighter screen for the Fold 6, a larger battery, and improved cooling for the Flip 6. Additionally, there’s promising news regarding the durability of both devices.
Galaxy Z Flip 6
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 maintains the same display sizes as its predecessor – a 3.4-inch cover screen and a 6.7-inch main foldable display. The main screen boasts Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz variable refresh rate, while the cover screen features a 720 x 748 pixels resolution and operates at 60Hz.
The more substantial updates for the Flip 6 are internal. It is anticipated to house a 4,000mAh battery, an increase from the 3,700mAh battery in the Z Flip 5, potentially resulting in better battery life. Moreover, the Flip 6 is set to be the first in its series to incorporate a vapor chamber cooling system, enhancing heat management during intensive tasks.
The camera setup on the Flip 6 includes an upgraded 50MP primary sensor, with the 12MP ultrawide sensor and the 10MP selfie camera remaining the same.
Galaxy Z Fold 6
Regarding the Fold 6, it features a 6.3-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch main foldable display. Both screens offer a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits, comparable to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The Fold 6 is expected to be slightly lighter than its predecessor, weighing 239g compared to the Fold 5’s 253g, and will have the same 4,400mAh battery as its predecessor.
The camera system remains unchanged, featuring a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultrawide sensor, and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. It also retains the same dual front-facing cameras – a 10MP sensor on the cover screen and a 4MP sensor on the main display.
Shared Specs
In terms of durability, both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are expected to feature an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. Although this isn’t as high as the IP68 rating on many premium smartphones, it’s a noteworthy improvement over the IPX8 rating commonly seen on foldable phones. The devices have frames made of Armor Aluminium, and the displays will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Furthermore, both foldables will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, coupled with 12GB of RAM, and will offer storage options of 256GB and 512GB. The Fold 6 might also come in a 1TB storage variant.
They will run Android 14 with Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 layered on top, which incorporates Galaxy AI. Users will have access to features like Circle to Search, Interpreter Mode, and Notes Summarization. However, there’s no mention of any new AI features for foldables that were speculated earlier.
Additional shared features include a side-mounted fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, dual-SIM support, and connectivity options such as 5G (sub-6GHz), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port. However, Samsung DeX support is expected to be exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
