Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G: Xiaomi Silent on IP69 Rating Details

The story of the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus and its IP rating outside of China is still unfolding. To summarize, Xiaomi offers the device with an IP69 rating for dust and water resistance in China. This means the phone should be able to endure exposure to hot water and high-pressure water jets without facing any damage.

    Confusion Over International Release

At first, it looked like this level of protection wouldn’t apply to the phone’s global launch. It appeared that Xiaomi confirmed the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G would only have an IP68 rating, similar to its previous model (currently $377.50 on Amazon). However, they later stated that the device would come to India with an IP69 rating, boasting that it is ‘designed to handle the extreme’.

    Unclear Water Resistance Levels

Sadly, the precise level of water resistance that the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus provides is still uncertain. Xiaomi has recently stated that IP69 is ‘supported’, but with specific terms and conditions attached. Strangely, the company has not detailed what these conditions are or where they can be located. In fact, the product listing for the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus only mentions the IP68 certification. This means there’s no assurance that the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus is as water-resistant as Xiaomi has often suggested.

Xiaomi’s communication on this matter has been quite perplexing, leaving potential buyers in a bit of a muddle.

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G Launches Globally with Light Hunter 800 Camera

Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G Launches Globally with Light Hunter 800 Camera

The Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus has officially launched internationally, joining the Redmi Note 14 5G and Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G. Xiaomi has attached a ‘5G’ label to this model, similar to its siblings. While the company hasn’t confirmed it, the existence of the Redmi Note 13 4G and Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G (currently priced at $219 on Amazon) suggests there may also be 4G variants of the Redmi Note 14 series on the way, a notion supported by recent leaks.

    Key Features of the Device

In terms of specifications, the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G retains everything from its original launch in China, featuring a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen housed in a frame measuring 162.5 x 74.7 x 8.8 mm. The display boasts a resolution of 2,712 x 1,220 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and an impressive peak brightness of 3,000 nits, all protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Notably, this device holds an IP69 rating against dust and water, a feature not found in the Redmi Note 14 5G or the Redmi Note 14 Pro 5G.

    Performance and Battery Life

The Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, and it offers options for LPDDR4X/LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 2.2/UFS 3.1 storage based on the selected memory configuration. A standout feature is its 6,200 mAh battery, capable of charging at 90 W through a wired connection. Additionally, it includes a 50 MP main camera (Light Hunter 800), a telephoto camera (ISOCELL JN1), a 20 MP front camera (OV20B), and an 8 MP ultra-wide-angle camera (IMX355).

    Availability and Color Options

The Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus 5G will be released on December 13, but only in India, with no information yet on availability in other countries. The device will come in three color options: Phantom Purple, Spectre Blue, and Titan Black, along with various memory configurations. Xiaomi has yet to provide details regarding the expansion of its market presence for this model.

  • Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus Gets IP69 Certification for Global Launch

Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus Gets IP69 Certification for Global Launch

Xiaomi has recently introduced a new model to succeed the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus, which is currently priced at $379.49 on Amazon. This new version will not be available internationally until December 9, when it launches in India alongside the Redmi Note 14 and Redmi Note 14 Pro. To build excitement, Xiaomi is releasing teasers on social media that showcase various hardware features, including the Light Hunter 800 and 50 MP telephoto cameras.

    Water Resistance Differences

Interestingly, Xiaomi has indicated that the international version of the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus may have lower water resistance compared to the model sold in China. The global variant is expected to be IP68 rated, similar to its predecessor. In contrast, the Chinese version boasts IP69 certification, making it one of the rare smartphones with such high water resistance. Notably, even the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro do not have IP69 certification.

    Clarification on Certification

Moreover, Xiaomi’s microsite for the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus previously suggested that the device only meets the IP68 rating for protection against water and dust. However, the company has now confirmed that the global version will indeed be IP69 certified, claiming it’s “designed to handle the extreme.” Putting marketing claims aside, this means the Redmi Note 14 Pro Plus should be able to endure conditions like exposure to hot water or withstand high-pressure jets without suffering damage.
