This event will also see the launch of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5000 series, which we recently discussed. Although some details about AMD’s upcoming GPUs have been leaked, it seems that they have been hiding in plain sight for a while.

    New Graphics Card Discovery

    A sharp-eyed redditor on the r/AMD subreddit noticed that AMD has featured a never-before-seen graphics card in an official advertisement on Reddit for the past couple of months. The ad showcases an AMD Ryzen 9 CPU box alongside a triple-fan AMD Radeon graphics card.

    This particular design is different and has not been seen before from AMD. It looks like a first-party design since there’s no branding from any third-party AIB makers on the shroud. All these hints imply that this could be a new RX 8000 series GPU design, although it is still uncertain which exact model it is. The tri-fan structure suggests it’s aimed at a high-end GPU, and it wouldn’t make sense for AMD to show its top-tier Ryzen 9 CPU with a lower-end GPU in the advertisement. Thus, this likely represents the reference design for the upcoming Radeon RX 8800 XT, or whatever AMD may choose to call it. However, it could also correspond to the recently leaked RDNA 4-based AMD Radeon RX 9070.

    Performance Expectations

    Currently, all signs point towards the RX 8000 series being built on AMD’s RDNA 3.5 architecture. This seems to be a slight refresh of the RDNA 3 architecture that was utilized for the RX 7000 series GPUs. While this news may not be alarming for gamers on a budget or those looking for mid-range GPU options, it implies that AMD may struggle to compete in the high-end GPU market.

    PowerColor to Launch Radeon RX 8000 Reaper GPUs Next Month

    PowerColor is said to be working on a new range of GPUs called “Reaper,” intended for AMD’s forthcoming Radeon RX 8000 series, as reported by VideoCardz. This new series aims to cater to the budget and mainstream markets, complementing PowerColor’s current products instead of replacing them.

    PowerColor’s Experience

    PowerColor has been one of AMD’s most committed AIB partners for more than ten years, manufacturing Radeon GPUs. The company has a variety of product lines, including the high-end Liquid Devil and Red Devil, the mid-range Hellhound and Red Dragon, and the budget-friendly Fighter series. Interestingly, PowerColor did not produce a Red Dragon option for the Radeon RX 7000 series, but it is expected to return with the RX 8000 GPUs scheduled for January.

    Mainstream Focus

    The Reaper lineup looks to be targeting regular users, with the initial models likely to feature the RX 8800 and RX 8600, plus their XT versions, resulting in four total SKUs. Additionally, sources indicate that PowerColor may present Red Dragon and Hellhound RX 8000 variants during CES 2025. However, there is still uncertainty about the future of PowerColor’s flagship Devil series. Since RDNA 4 is mainly aimed at budget-conscious consumers, it seems AMD is stepping back from the high-end segment, which may mean no high-performance Devil-branded RX 8800 with sophisticated cooling and premium features, at least for the time being.

    AMD’s New Architecture

    AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture is expected to bring major advancements, such as better Ray Tracing performance and AI-driven capabilities like FSR 4. Intel’s latest Battlemage GPUs have already caught many off guard, with the Arc B580 showing better performance than AMD’s Radeon RX 7600 and NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4060 in certain tests, especially in Ray Tracing, while still being competitively priced.

    For AMD, RDNA 4 is a vital chance to regain its footing in the GPU market. Nonetheless, there are still worries, including rumors that the Radeon RX 8600 (Navi 44) might be released with only 8GB of VRAM. Although an RX 8600 XT version with 16GB could be a possibility, it would probably come with a higher price tag.     AMD’s Exciting CES 2025 Lineup Leaked: What to Expect

    CES 2025 is looking to be an exciting event for those who love hardware. We can expect to see new CPUs from Intel like the Arrow Lake for desktops and laptops, along with Battlemage GPUs and Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards. Nevertheless, the AMD presentation is what many are eagerly awaiting, especially if a recent leak from a Chinese forum turns out to be correct. AMD is set to reveal a wide range of products at the event, including:

    Product Availability

    It’s important to note that not every item showcased will be ready for sale right away. The Ryzen 9 9900 and 9950X3D, specifically, may not be on store shelves for a while. Releasing them too soon could hurt sales of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which is set to launch just weeks before. Still, AMD isn’t rushing to release their top-tier X3D chips, since Intel’s Arrow Lake doesn’t seem to pose any real threat to AMD in the gaming sector.

    AMD vs. Nvidia

    The Radeon RX 8000 RDNA 4 GPUs are expected to come out around the same time as Nvidia’s offerings. Even though AMD won’t have something like an RTX 5090 or RTX 5080 this time, the mid-range market will still be competitive with options like the Radeon RX 8700 XT and Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070. Interestingly, there’s no mention of RDNA 4 laptops, which suggests that AMD plans to introduce them later in 2025.

    Future Launches

    AMD is also preparing business-oriented SKUs such as Kraken Point and Strix Halo. While there’s proof of at least one Asus tablet utilizing Kraken Point, it’s likely intended for high-end workstations. Fire Range is AMD’s response to Arrow Lake-HX, which is expected to launch around the same time. Both of these will likely support gaming laptops in 2025, but a recent rumor suggests we may not see many of them in action.

    This brings us to the Ryzen Z2 Extreme, Ryzen Z2, and a puzzling product called Ryzen Z2G. The exact nature of the third SKU is uncertain; it could be a mistranslation or a lower-spec version of the Ryzen Z2. Regardless, these processors are set to power handheld gaming consoles coming out in 2025 and maybe even in 2026. Unfortunately, it seems the Steam Deck 2 might not be part of this lineup, as Valve does not intend to rush its release.
