In addition to these flagship smartphones, Samsung introduced its first extended reality (XR) headset, named ‘Project Moohan.’ This signifies Samsung’s entry into the XR and wearable technology market.

    The ‘Project Moohan’ XR headset was first revealed in December 2024 and aims to change the way users engage with both physical and digital worlds.     We are just a few hours away from the Galaxy Unpacked event. As everyone is excited for Samsung to reveal the Galaxy S25 series, rumors suggest that the company might surprise us with something even more significant. A report from Business Korea indicates that Samsung could showcase its XR headset, known as Project Moohan, during the event.

    Anticipated Showcase

    Industry insiders state that Samsung plans to introduce its XR headset with some video presentations. There may also be a chance for attendees to try out the headset firsthand at the event. While the leaks so far seem promising, it will be interesting to find out if this headset is Samsung’s competitor to Apple’s Vision Pro and Meta’s Quest 3.

    Extended reality devices are not yet widespread, and it will be fascinating to see how much progress Samsung, Google, and Qualcomm have made towards making these devices more accessible. Personally, I am looking forward to seeing the design, weight, and battery life of the headset.

    As for Apple, they couldn’t fit the battery (which weighs over 350 grams) inside the headset, as this would add too much weight to the product. For those curious, the AVP weighs between 600-650g without the battery. These are indeed high-performance devices that require significant processing power and energy to run.

    Samsung’s official statement explains that “Moohan” translates to infinity in Korean, symbolizing their vision of providing unmatched, immersive experiences within endless environments. The company asserts that Project Moohan will be lightweight and crafted for optimal comfort during extended use, featuring ergonomically designed hardware.

    Headset Design Features

    The render displays the headset in a gray color, resembling ski goggles with a sizeable facial interface. It features a strap that encircles the head, but notably lacks a strap that crosses over the top. The backside is padded for added comfort. A silver frame outlines the front, with a button clearly seen in the top right corner.

    Advanced Technology

    Samsung emphasizes that Project Moohan will come equipped with cutting-edge displays, passthrough support, and intuitive multi-modal input options. While specific technical specifications remain undisclosed, Qualcomm has shared that the headset will operate on the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2, an enhanced iteration of the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip found in the Meta Quest 3S, which is currently priced at $299 on Amazon.
