With the Pro Max 271UPXW12G, MSI now offers another monitor for professional users, which should work perfectly not only with Windows, but also with macOS. On the one hand, the MSI M-Mate app makes setting color profiles and brightness more convenient. And on the other hand, the monitor is equipped with a USB-C port that can charge MacBooks with up to 98 watts. A second USB-C port supplies up to 15 watts of power, which is enough to charge an Apple iPad, for example. Alternatively, two HDMI 2.1 and one DisplayPort 1.4a are also available. MSI installs 2 x 2.5 watt stereo speakers and includes a height-adjustable stand.

    The highlight of the equipment is the 26.5-inch QD OLED panel, which offers a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, a frame rate of 120 Hz and a peak HDR brightness of 1,000 nits. According to MSI, 99% of the DCI-P3 color space can be displayed and 97.5% of Adobe RGB.     Update After 21 Months

    In the most recent update, after 21 months, MU notes that the burn-in areas on the monitor have worsened. Still, the overall degradation of the monitor isn’t as bad as one might think for an OLED that has experienced heavy usage without any burn-in prevention measures.

    The visible problems remain similar to previous updates, with most artifacts stemming from the Windows Taskbar, the line between two open apps, and burn-in on the right side where the frequently used static app was situated. As reported earlier, the Green sub-pixels showed the most wear, followed by Blue, and then Red. However, the color temperature of the MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED monitor has not changed much.

    Brightness Concerns

    One downside the MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED has faced is a slight drop in maximum brightness. MU pointed out that this is the first instance where the monitor’s brightness has decreased, now capping at 237 nits. Although this is just a 5-nit reduction, further dimming could be anticipated since OLEDs typically get less bright over time with continued use.

    Overall, after about 5,000 hours of intensive use, with only 576 compensation cycles and no additional burn-in prevention features, the MSI MPG 321URX QD-OLED gaming monitor has performed remarkably well. For the average gamer, this monitor should easily endure three to four years of multimedia activities without significant burn-in issues.

Interestingly, Asus has removed the 90 W USB Type-C port that was available in the ROG Strix OLED XG27ACDNG, without providing a substitute. Instead, the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDNG features a similar port selection that includes DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, and a three-port USB hub.
