HMD Skyline Revives Iconic Nokia Lumia 920 Design

HMD Global, the company responsible for Nokia smartphones, appears to be tapping into nostalgia once again. Just last month, they reintroduced the 90s classic Nokia 3210 with modern updates. Now, it seems they’re doing it again with another device.

We’ve previously heard rumors about a device called the Skyline. Recently, the first renders for the HMD Skyline were shared on X by user @smashx_60.

    Design and Display

The renders display a phone that echoes the Fabula design language initially seen with the Nokia N9. The bright yellow color scheme is particularly reminiscent of the iconic Nokia Lumia 920.

Though the design evokes memories, the specifications are quite contemporary. According to earlier reports, Skyline will feature a modern FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The device is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC, a solid mid-range processor.

    Camera and Battery

On the rear, the Skyline will boast a triple-camera setup, including a 108MP main sensor, an ultrawide lens, and a macro or depth sensor. For selfies, there will be a 32MP front-facing camera.

The phone will come equipped with a substantial 4,900mAh battery supporting 33W fast charging. Additionally, it will have an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

    Features and Pricing

Modern features like an under-display fingerprint sensor and stereo speakers are also expected. The software will likely be covered by Android 14, the latest version of Google’s mobile OS.

The HMD Skyline is anticipated to be priced at €520 for the variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, and it is expected to launch sometime in July.

HMD Skyline: Premium Phone, Nighthawk as Affordable Alternative

HMD Global, known for its Nokia-branded phones, is reportedly preparing to launch a new mid-range smartphone called the Skyline. According to a Finnish publication, this phone is set to debut in July and will be available at retailers starting July 10.

    Pricing and Specifications

The Skyline is expected to be a more premium offering from HMD, with an anticipated price of €520. It will come in black, featuring 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, along with dual-SIM support. The device is believed to have the model number TA-1688.

While detailed specifications are sparse, the Skyline, previously codenamed Tomacat, is rumored to sport an FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It will likely be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC.

    Camera and Additional Features

The back of the Skyline is expected to feature a triple-camera setup, with a 108MP main sensor, an ultrawide lens, and either a macro or depth sensor. For selfies, there will be a 32MP front camera.

Other notable features include a 4,900mAh battery with 33W fast charging, IP67 dust and water resistance, and Android 14 pre-installed. Additionally, the phone will have an under-display fingerprint sensor and stereo speakers.

    Budget-Friendly Option: Nighthawk

For those looking for a more budget-friendly option, HMD is also reportedly working on another device called Nighthawk, expected to be priced under €300.

The Nighthawk will share the same FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate as the Skyline but will be powered by a less powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 SoC. It will come with 8GB of RAM and offer storage options of 128GB or 256GB.

The Nighthawk will also feature a 108MP main camera along with one additional rear sensor and a 32MP selfie camera. It will have a slightly larger 5,000mAh battery. Notably, the Nighthawk will include a headphone jack, and both devices will run Android 14 and feature stereo speakers.
