Motorola Moto G 2025 Launches in US: 5G, Headphone Jack, Dolby Atmos

The “new Moto G” or Moto G (2025) is a smartphone that runs on the same Dimensity 6300 SoC found in the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G in certain regions. It’s currently available for purchase through Amazon or directly from Motorola, featuring 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for $199.99, just like it was promised beforehand.

    Camera Comparison

The A16 5G is also on sale at the same price and configuration as of today (January 31, 2025). It can be argued that it has superior rear cameras, including a 5MP ultra-wide-angle lens along with the common 50MP main and 2MP macro lenses that both phones share.

    Display Differences

The Samsung model is the only one of the two that features an AMOLED display, though it disappointingly retains the outdated waterdrop-style notch, unlike the punch-hole design of the Moto G (2025). The A16 offers a 90Hz refresh rate compared to the Moto G’s 120Hz, even though the A16’s display is FHD+ while the latest Moto G settles for HD+. Both devices, however, show off an obvious chin.

    Design and Audio Features

The Moto G could appeal to some users by providing options in Forest Gray or Sapphire Blue for its uniquely curved vegan leather back, while the A16 5G’s rear might be confused for nearly any recent Samsung smartphone. The Moto G (2025) may have the advantage in audio with its Dolby Atmos-enhanced stereo speakers and the increasingly rare 3.5mm headphone jack.

    Software and Durability

It also comes with Android 15 out of the box, unlike its Samsung competitor which runs Android 14. However, the A16 is expected to receive up to 6 major OS updates, while Motorola’s software update plans are known to be less defined. The A16 5G also has an official IP54 rating for water and dust resistance, in contrast to the “water-repellent” coating of the Moto G. Nevertheless, the Moto G does feature Gorilla Glass 3, which the Samsung device lacks.

    Battery and Charging

Both smartphones are equipped with standard 5,000mAh batteries and USB-C ports, but the Moto G (2025) supports 30W wired charging, while the A16 5G is limited to Samsung’s older 25W charging standard.

In conclusion, the new Moto G is set to make a strong impact in the budget 5G smartphone space in 2025.

Moto G Power 2025: Affordable Toughness in Budget Smartphones

Motorola has kicked off 2025 with the introduction of two new budget smartphones, the Moto G Power 2025 and the Moto G 2025. These models are packed with great features that cater to users looking for affordability without sacrificing quality. Let’s dive into the specs of these devices.

    Device Specifications

The Moto G Power 2025 boasts a 6.8-inch FHD+ LCD display, featuring a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, all protected by Gorilla Glass 5 to ensure durability and vibrant visuals. On the other hand, the Moto G 2025 comes with a slightly smaller 6.7-inch FHD+ LCD, offering the same refresh rate and brightness, but it utilizes Gorilla Glass 3 for protection.

Both smartphones are powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset. The Moto G Power comes with 8GB of RAM, while the Moto G provides options of 4GB or 6GB. Both run on Android 15, which includes features such as audio sharing, better accessibility, and enhanced security settings.

    Camera and Battery Features

The Moto G Power 2025 is equipped with a triple-camera setup that includes a 50MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 16MP selfie camera, enhanced by OIS and Quad Pixel technology for clearer images. In contrast, the Moto G 2025 features a 50MP main sensor along with a 2MP macro lens and a 16MP selfie camera, providing good photography capabilities considering its price.

Both smartphones are fitted with a 5000mAh battery. The Moto G Power 2025 supports 30W TurboPower wired charging and 15W wireless charging, whereas the Moto G 2025 comes with only 30W wired charging.

    Durability and Audio Quality

One of the highlights of the Moto G Power 2025 is its MIL-STD-810H certification and IP68/IP69 water and dust resistance, making it one of the most resilient budget phones available. It can handle extreme conditions like falls, humidity, and water immersion, which is quite impressive for its price range.

The Moto G 2025, while not as rugged, still offers IP52 water resistance and features a vegan leather back similar to its counterpart. Both phones support Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res Audio, and Bass Boost technology for an immersive audio experience.

    Pricing and Availability

The Moto G 2025 will be hitting the market on January 30, 2025, priced at $199.99. It will be available in two colors: Forest Gray and Sapphire Blue. Meanwhile, the Moto G Power 2025 is set to launch on February 6, 2025, at a price of $299.99, and will come in Slate Gray and Leaf Green.

Both models will be sold unlocked through Motorola’s online store, Amazon, and Best Buy. They will also be available from major U.S. carriers, including T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, and more, in the upcoming months. Canadian customers can expect availability starting May 2, 2025, via motorola.ca and select carriers.
