    Kia has announced that the EV5 will not be released in the US market. The vehicle made its debut at the Chengdu Motor Show in 2023 and subsequently launched in China later that same year. In 2024, an international version was introduced, with rumors suggesting it might be available in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico.

    Exclusivity in Canada

    In a recent statement, Kia confirmed that the EV5 will be exclusive to Canada within North America. This decision seems to eliminate the possibility of launches in both the US and Mexico, despite earlier reports that suggested otherwise. Regrettably, the company hasn’t provided any explanation for this choice.

    Affordable, Yet Stylish

    Kia markets the EV5 as an “affordable option” featuring a design akin to the EV9 but with a more compact size. Customers can choose from eight different colors and several trim levels. The base model will be a front-wheel drive electric vehicle equipped with a 60.3 kWh battery. Additionally, there will be all-wheel drive versions that offer an extended range due to an 81.4 kWh battery. Inside, the five-door EV boasts a 30-inch panoramic display for the driver, seating for five, and adjustable mood lighting. Kia also highlights the ample storage available in both the trunk and frunk, with the rear seats capable of folding flat.

    Charging Convenience for Canadians

    Though the compact SUV won’t be available in the US, Canadian buyers will benefit from access to Tesla Superchargers throughout both the US and Canada, thanks to the integrated North American Charging Standard (NACS) port. The Kia EV5 is anticipated to reach Canadian dealerships sometime in 2026. While official pricing has not yet been disclosed, it is projected to be priced between $40,000 and $50,000. The new model will also be showcased at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, starting on February 14th.

    Kia EV5 Launching in Australia: Affordable Tesla Model Y Alternative

    Kia has announced the prices for the EV5 in Australia. The launch of this electric SUV, which was initially set for June, faced delays due to software and wheel issues. Thankfully, these problems seem to have been sorted out, and the Air and Earth trims are set to become available soon. Additionally, two GT-Line versions are expected to arrive in December.

    Pricing Details

    As per the Kia Australia website, the starting price for the EV5 is A$56,770 for the FWD Air Standard Range trim, which is lower than the Tesla Model Y that has a drive away cost of A$60,868. The FWD Air Long Range trim, capable of providing up to 555 km (~345 miles) instead of the 400 km (~249 miles) WLTP range, is listed at A$63,990. The AWD Earth trim, another long-range version with a range of up to 500 km (~310 miles), is priced at A$69,990. The Earth trim not only includes a second motor but also comes with bigger 19-inch alloy wheels, a power tailgate, and an external vehicle-to-load (V2L) port, setting it apart from the Air.

    High-End Variants

    The EV5 GT-Line and the EV5 GT-Line Two-Tone are both priced around A$77,990. These premium trims come with enhanced features such as larger 20-inch alloy wheels, a heads-up display, blind-spot camera, fingerprint authentication, and massage seats. It’s important to keep in mind that prices may differ depending on the region. It is still unclear when exactly the Kia EV5 will be available in Australia or when it will reach other international markets.

    After some speculation about higher prices, the Kia EV5 electric vehicle has finally been launched in China at a lower price. This announcement came during the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition 2023. The reduction in price amounts to 10,000 yuan.

    Trim Levels and Specifications

    The Kia EV5 is available in three trim levels in China: standard, long-range, and AWD. The standard trim option comes with a 160kW motor and a BYD LFP Blade battery with a capacity of 64.2Wh. It offers a range of 530km. On the other hand, the long-range variant is equipped with an 88kWh LFP battery and the same motor, allowing for a range of 720km. The AWD version of the EV5 features dual 160kW front motors and a 70kW rear motor, along with an 88kWh battery. Unfortunately, the range of the AWD trim has not been specified.

    Interior Features

    Inside the Kia EV5, you’ll find a modern and tech-forward cabin. The vehicle boasts three screens, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 5-inch climate control panel, and a 12.3-inch infotainment display. These screens provide easy access to various vehicle settings and entertainment options. Additionally, the EV5 offers Level 2 assisted driving with semi-automated lane changing and intelligent remote control parking.

    Pricing and Availability

    Initially, the Kia EV5 was expected to have a starting price of 159,800 yuan ($22,160). However, the company has revised the pricing, and the EV5 will now start at 149,800 yuan ($20,775). Kia is also offering a 5-year warranty for the EV5, which covers up to 100,000km of range. Moreover, the battery, motor, and electronic control system are covered for 8 years or 150,000km.

    International Release

    While the Kia EV5 has made its debut in China, the company has plans to release it in other markets as well. Canada, South Korea, and Australia are among the countries where the EV5 will be available in 2024. However, Kia has not yet specified the exact schedule for the international release or the prices of the model in these specific markets.
