At a recent launch event in China, iQOO introduced the Z9 series smartphones, consisting of the Z9, Z9x, and Z9 Turbo models, succeeding the previous iQOO Z8 series. The lineup ranges from the Z9x as the base model to the Z9 Turbo as the top-tier option, with the Z9 positioned in between.

iQOO Z9, Z9x Specifications and Features

The iQOO Z9 boasts a 6.78-inch AMOLED display featuring a 1.5K resolution, 4,500 nits peak brightness, and a speedy 144Hz refresh rate, complete with an integrated fingerprint scanner. On the other hand, the iQOO Z9x offers a slimmed-down LCD screen measuring 6.72 inches with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1,000 nits peak brightness, and an FHD+ resolution. Both phones present a flat frame design and a squarish camera module with rounded corners resembling the iQOO 12, albeit with slight variations on the Z9x, which includes a side-mounted fingerprint scanner within the power button. Notably, both devices are IP64-certified for dust and water resistance.

Imaging Capabilities and Performance

In terms of camera setup, both the iQOO Z9 and Z9x sport dual rear cameras, consisting of a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth lens. Additionally, the iQOO Z9 features a 16MP front camera, while the Z9x incorporates an 8MP selfie shooter. Performance-wise, the iQOO Z9 operates on a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, while the Z9x is powered by a Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC. Both smartphones offer up to 12GB of RAM and varying storage options, with the Z9 maxing out at 512GB and the Z9x at 256GB. Moreover, they are equipped with substantial 6,000mAh battery units supporting rapid charging at 80W for the Z9 and 44W for the Z9x. Software-wise, the Z9 duo run on OriginOS 4 based on Android 14.

Pricing and Availability

The iQOO Z9 is priced at CNY 1,199 ($165) for the 8GB + 128GB variant, while the 8GB + 256GB model costs CNY 1,299 ($179). The 12GB + 256GB configuration is available for CNY 1,499 ($206). On the other hand, the iQOO Z9x’s 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB options are priced at CNY 1,499 ($206) and CNY 1,599 ($). Meanwhile, the 12GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512GB versions come with price tags of CNY 1,799 ($248) and CNY 1,999 (~$275) respectively. Both Z9 models are offered in White, Green, and Black color variants.

iQOO is gearing up to introduce its Z9 series in China on April 24th, which will include the iQOO Z9x, Z9, and Z9 Turbo models.

Teasing Specifications

Leading to the launch, iQOO has been hinting at the features of these smartphones. Ahead of the launch event, real photos of the iQOO Z9 and Z9 have surfaced on Weibo, a popular Chinese social media platform.

Design and Features

The leaked images showcase the iQOO Z9 and Z9 Turbo sporting a similar design. Both devices boast a flat OLED display at the front and a square-shaped camera setup at the back housing a dual-camera system. However, the Z9x is anticipated to have a distinct rear design compared to its counterparts.

Specifications Revealed

From the settings page, the specifications of both smartphones have been unveiled. The iQOO Z9 is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset, coupled with 12GB of RAM and 12GB of virtual RAM, along with 512GB of storage.

The Z9 Turbo, on the other hand, will be equipped with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, 16GB of RAM (with 16GB of virtual RAM), and 512GB of storage. There are also rumors suggesting that the Z9 Turbo may come with a dedicated graphics chip for managing demanding tasks.

Battery and Software

Both the Z9 and Z9 Turbo will feature a robust 6,000mAh battery. Software-wise, they are set to run on OriginOS 4, which is based on Android 14.

Moreover, in an official poster released today, iQOO confirmed that all three phones will have an IP64 rating for protection against dust and water.
