Honor Unveils Magic 7 Pro at MWC 2025: A Seven-Year Update

    Key Takeaways

    1. Extended Update Commitment: Honor will provide seven years of Android updates and security patches for its Magic series, starting with the Magic 7 Pro.

    2. Shift from Five to Seven Years: The Magic 7 Pro’s update promise has been increased from five years to seven years, extending support until 2032.

    3. Honor Alpha Plan: This initiative aims to redefine Honor’s image to a global AI-driven device ecosystem, focusing on meeting consumer needs.

    4. Sustainability Focus: The extended update policy is part of Honor’s effort to reduce e-waste by keeping devices functional for a longer time.

    5. Potential Industry Influence: Honor’s move may inspire other Android brands to adopt similar long-term update commitments.

Samsung and Google have been the main players in the Android market, providing seven years of platform and security updates. Samsung started this trend with its Galaxy S24 series, and Google matched this with its Pixel 8 lineup. However, for a long time, no other brands have been able to match their level of commitment—until now.

    Honor’s New Commitment

At MWC 2025, Honor revealed its plan to offer seven years of Android updates and security patches for its Magic series, beginning with devices available in European markets. The Honor Magic 7 Pro (review) will be the first smartphone to receive this extended support. Initially, when it launched in Europe this January, it was promised five years of updates. But with the recent policy change, the device is now set to receive updates until 2032—or Android 22, if Google continues its annual update schedule.

    A Bold Move Towards Sustainability

Honor explained that this extended support is part of its Honor Alpha Plan, which aims to change the company’s image from just a smartphone producer into a global AI-driven device ecosystem. Honor’s CEO, James Li, stated in a press release, “We aim to provide devices and services that meet consumer needs and go beyond their expectations.” This is the reason behind their decision to offer seven years of Android OS and security updates for the Honor Magic series.

In addition to improving software longevity, Honor mentioned that this initiative is a step toward sustainability, aiming to minimize e-waste by keeping devices functional for a longer time. While the Magic 7 Pro is the first to benefit, Honor has confirmed that this new policy will extend to other flagship models and foldable phones. However, it’s important to note that the Magic Lite series won’t be part of this extended support program.

Looking Ahead in the Android Space

With Honor enhancing its software update policy, it will be interesting to observe if other Android brands will follow in its footsteps. For more daily updates, please check out our News Section. At MWC 2025, Honor has introduced its bold plan for the future of smartphones by launching the first AI Agentic Smartphone in the world. This innovative model, created in partnership with Google and Qualcomm, aims to transform the mobile experience. It features an advanced AI agent that can carry out complex tasks on its own, adapt to what users want, and connect human intentions with digital actions.

    The Intelligent AI Agent

Honor’s AI agent is different from regular voice assistants. It has a much greater understanding of context, meaning it can grasp user behavior, priorities, and real-life limitations. Instead of simply obeying commands, it forecasts needs, automates various tasks, and tailors interactions. During a live demo at MWC, the AI agent effortlessly made a restaurant reservation by looking at the user’s schedule, considering traffic, and picking the best time—without any manual help.

The AI agent runs on an on-device model with 1.3 billion parameters, which guarantees quick responses and privacy. For more complicated tasks, it connects to a cloud-based AI Kernel that utilizes a 12.4 billion parameter model to improve its decision-making skills.

    An AI-Centric Strategy

This advanced model is the first step in Honor’s Alpha Plan, a long-term vision aimed at evolving from just a smartphone maker into a company that offers a full AI device ecosystem. With its AI-centric strategy, the smart phone learns user habits over time, suggesting options, optimizing battery life based on how it’s used, and even spotting potential cyber threats through AI-driven security checks.

    Extended Software Support

In a significant move for the industry, Honor also announced it will provide seven years of Android OS and security updates for its leading Magic series smartphones, including both bar and foldable models. This remarkable commitment, starting with the Honor Magic 7 Pro, positions the company among the top three global brands for such extensive software support. This initiative not only improves the lifespan of devices but also supports sustainability by minimizing e-waste and ensuring users’ security over the long term.

Honor has also launched AiMAGE, a new imaging brand that uses AI to enhance old portraits, set to debut on the Magic 7 Pro in March. Furthermore, AI Deepfake Detection will be included in flagship models, highlighting Honor’s dedication to AI safety.

Honor Magic 7 Lite and Pro Specs and Price Leaked Before Launch

Honor is preparing to broaden the reach of its main Magic 7 series worldwide after its first release in China this October. Before the official announcement, leaks have emerged online that disclose the European prices, specifications, and color choices for the Honor Magic 7 Lite and Magic 7 Pro. Additionally, Honor China has hinted at a Porsche design variant for this series, as well as the upcoming Honor Imaging Tech Conference.

    European Pricing and Options

As reported by 91mobiles, the Honor Magic 7 Lite 5G will be offered in an 8GB+512GB version, with a price tag of €376.89 (about ₹33,200). Buyers can choose between black and purple colors. The premium Honor Magic 7 Pro 5G is set to be priced at €1,225.90 (approximately ₹1,08,000) for its 12GB+512GB model, available in black and grey shades.

Interestingly, the regular Honor Magic 7 model hasn’t been mentioned in the leaks. However, the significant price difference between the Lite and Pro versions suggests that a standard model could be positioned between the two. Since the Honor Magic 6 Pro launched in India earlier this year, it seems likely that the Magic 7 series will also find its way to Indian customers.

Expectations for the Honor Magic 7 Lite

The Honor Magic 7 Lite is anticipated to come with a 6.78-inch OLED screen featuring a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2700 x 1224 pixels. It will probably be powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor.

The device is expected to carry a substantial 6,600mAh battery and operate on Android 14 with Magic OS 8.0. One notable aspect is that it will not come with a charger in the box, and it will weigh 189 grams. Compared to its predecessor, the Magic 6 Lite, the main upgrade seems to be the larger battery. The phone has been listed on the Google Play Console before.

Features of the Honor Magic 7 Pro

The Magic 7 Pro will feature a 6.8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2800 x 1280 pixels, supporting Dolby Vision and offering a 120Hz refresh rate. It will be driven by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, which can reach speeds up to 4.3GHz, marking a significant enhancement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 used in the Magic 6 Pro.

In terms of its camera configuration, it will come with a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 200MP telephoto lens that supports 3x optical zoom, plus a 50MP front camera. The device will also be equipped with a 5,850mAh battery that supports 100W wired and 80W wireless charging. Additional features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, IP68/IP69 ratings, DTS:X Ultra audio, and will run on Android 15 with Magic OS 9.
