Chinese EV Makers Integrate DeepSeek for Enhanced Technology

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers Geely and Voyah are set to include DeepSeek AI in their automobiles. Geely, which owns well-known brands such as Volvo, Polestar, and Zeekr, is developing its own AI system called “Full-Domain AI for Smart Vehicles.” This system is expected to significantly enhance the driving experience by providing features like voice commands and complete autonomous driving capabilities. Additionally, this AI model will support ongoing product research and development efforts.

    Geely’s Vision for AI

Geely aims to create an AI that is warm, empathetic, and ever-evolving. To achieve this, the company has partnered with DeepSeek to help train and improve its internal AI model. The datasets from DeepSeek will be incorporated into Geely’s system through distillation training, which will be essential for the next generation of connected vehicles.

    Voyah’s Commitment to Innovation

Another Chinese electric vehicle company, Voyah, which is part of Dongfeng Motors, has also revealed plans to integrate DeepSeek into its Courage (known as Zhiyin in its local market) EV crossover and Dream MPV. As a result, these two models will be the first vehicles available with DeepSeek technology.

According to reports from Chinese media, the Courage EV will receive the DeepSeek update via an over-the-air software upgrade on February 14. Voyah claims that DeepSeek will enhance its existing AI by making it more responsive, precise, and scalable. Eventually, this update will enable capabilities like writing poems, painting, conversing, and real-time information retrieval.

    Broader Adoption Across the Industry

Other electric vehicle manufacturers in China have also expressed interest in adopting the DeepSeek model. The CEO of Xpeng reportedly informed his staff that this cost-effective AI solution could create new possibilities for the company.

China’s Geely and Baidu Launch Jiyue 07 EV with an Award-Winning Design at Red Dot Award 2023

The Jiyue 07, a new electric liftback, has been officially unveiled in China. This electric sedan is a collaboration between Geely and Baidu and has already been recognized as the winner of the Red Dot Award for 2023. Consumers in China can expect to see the Jiyue 07 available for purchase in 2024.

    Features

The Jiyue 07, previously assumed to be named Jiyue 02, is built on Geely's SEA architecture and comes equipped with self-driving capabilities developed by Baidu. Jiyue is a joint venture between Baidu and Geely, with Baidu initially holding a 55% stake in the brand. However, after some restructuring, the brand was renamed Jiyue and Geely's holding increased to 65%. Geely handles the manufacturing aspect of the vehicle, while Baidu is responsible for the software, ADAS, and connectivity.

The Jiyue 07 is the second model in the Jiyue lineup, following the release of the Jiyue 01 SUV. This mid-size liftback car is based on the Jidu Robo-02 concept and boasts sleek styling, a low beltline, and wide wheel arches. The Jiyue 07 distinguishes itself by omitting door handles and featuring buttons on the B and C-pillars instead. The front end of the car showcases Y-shaped headlights, similar to its predecessor. Additionally, the Jiyue 07 includes a large panoramic roof, an active spoiler, and a single taillight unit on the side.

The Jiyue 07 electric liftback is equipped with five-spoke rims that come with aerodynamic covers. This model has been honored with two design awards: the 2023 Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award 2023. The Red Dot Design Award for 2023 recognized 16 cars, including the Peugeot 408, Genesis G90, Deepal SL03, and the Jiyue 07. In terms of specifications, the entry-level version of the Jiyue 07 features a single e-motor with a 200kW output and a 71.4kWh LFP battery. On the other hand, the 4WD version is equipped with a 400kW motor and a 100kWh NMC battery pack.

The self-driving system of the Jiyue 07 relies on cameras and radars, but does not include hip LiDAR sensors. Unfortunately, pricing and full release details for the Jiyue 07 have not been disclosed at this time. However, it is anticipated that the EV will make its way to the Chinese market by mid-2024.

  • Over 200,000 EVs are now powered by China’s first locally manufactured automotive-grade chip, Geely’s Dragon Eagle-1.

Over 200,000 EVs are now powered by China’s first locally manufactured automotive-grade chip, Geely’s Dragon Eagle-1.

SiEngine's Dragon Eagle-1 Chip Finds Its Way Into Over 200,000 Vehicles

SiEngine, a chip startup backed by Geely, has announced that its Dragon Eagle-1 chip is now being used in more than 200,000 vehicles. This automotive-grade chip, manufactured entirely in China, was released in December 2021 and has gained significant traction in the market.

The Dragon Eagle-1: Powering Various EVs

The Dragon Eagle-1 chip can be found in a range of electric vehicles (EVs), including the Lynk & Co 08 SUV, 06 EM-P SUV, and Livan 7 SUV, all manufactured by Geely. Additionally, SiEngine has received orders from other EV manufacturers, such as FAW, for over 20 different models.

    A Compact and Powerful Solution

The Dragon Eagle-1 is an integrated circuit that consolidates all the necessary components of a system into a single chip. Despite its small size, measuring about 83 sq. mm (as small as a fingernail), it packs a powerful punch. With 8.8 billion transistors and 87 layers of circuitry, the chip's CPU boasts 8 cores, while its GPU features 14 cores. Furthermore, it includes programmable NPU, ISP, VPU, and DSP clusters, making it a versatile solution for automotive applications. The Dragon Eagle-1 chip is built using the 7nm fab process, ensuring high performance and energy efficiency.

A Joint Venture with Strong Support

SiEngine is a joint venture between ECARX and ARM China. ECARX, founded by Geely's founder Eric Li (Li Shufu), is an automotive technology provider, while ARM is a chip design company based in the UK and owned by Softbank. Both ECARX and ARM have played a crucial role in supporting SiEngine in its early IP design and tape-out. In 2022, SiEngine received significant investments from multiple sources, including FAW and diversified industrial chains, through its Series A/A+ financing. This injection of capital has propelled SiEngine's development, as evidenced by the success of the Dragon Eagle-1 chip.

    Future Expansion and Advancements

SiEngine, technically owned by Geely, is steered by Shen Ziyu, who serves as the Chairman and CEO of ECARX, as well as Xingji Meizu, a Geely subsidiary. Moving forward, SiEngine plans to continue enhancing the capabilities of the Dragon Eagle-1 chip and expanding its usage across a broader range of EV brands.

With its Dragon Eagle-1 chip gaining significant traction in the market and a strong foundation backed by Geely, SiEngine is poised for further success in the automotive chip industry.
