Key Takeaways
1. Samsung is developing wearable tech focused on improving clinical health management, particularly for heart and brain health.
2. Smartwatches with AI algorithms can detect Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction (LVSD) and have received regulatory approval in South Korea.
3. The smartwatches utilize hospital-quality ECG analysis and impact over 120,000 patients monthly in leading hospitals.
4. Samsung has created a brain-computer interface wearable that monitors brain activity, predicting video preferences and detecting drowsiness with high accuracy.
5. The goal of these innovations is to enable early diagnosis, reduce hospital admissions, and lower overall healthcare costs.
As per a recent report by Samsung Electronics, the well-known tech company from South Korea is working on wearable tech aimed at improving clinical health management, with a special emphasis on heart and brain health.
Smartwatch Innovations
Their latest efforts include creating smartwatches that have AI algorithms capable of spotting Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction (LVSD), a serious condition that plays a role in half of heart failure cases and has a mere 50% survival rate post-diagnosis. These algorithms were made in collaboration with Medical AI and use hospital-quality ECG analysis that is applied in over 100 leading hospitals across South Korea, impacting more than 120,000 patients each month. This achievement has led to receiving regulatory approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in South Korea.
Brain-Computer Interface Development
Furthermore, Samsung has launched a brain-computer interface wearable through a device designed to fit around the ear, developed in collaboration with Hanyang University. This new gadget is small and intended for ongoing monitoring outside of lab settings. Tests revealed that it can predict video content preferences with an accuracy of 92.86% and detect drowsiness with an 80% accuracy rate. This technology could be applied in fields like neuromarketing, education, and enhancing productivity. According to Samsung, the research on the wearable EEG was highlighted in the IEEE Sensors Journal (Vol. 25, Issue 18). Contributors to the project suggest that it may also find uses in entertainment and mental health care.
Samsung’s main goal with these innovations is to promote early diagnosis, decrease hospital admission rates, and lower healthcare expenses through regular and easy patient screenings.
